DENVER, Colo. — On Wednesday, a Boulder man released videos of his July 29 arrest, and said he's ready to take action against the Denver Police Department for "savagely" beating him. He also claims an officer sexually assaulted him with a baton.Michael Jacobs, a self-described student activist, was arrested on July 29 during a "Stop the Sweep" homeless protest at Lincoln Park, across from the Colorado State Capitol.He says he was rattling a fence at Lincoln Park to get an officer's attention and says he was taken down by officers."I was grabbed from behind, it felt like it was from my neck, no warning, no 'you're under arrest,'" Jacobs said.It's important to stress that little is known about what led up to the takedown. You can briefly see an officer use his baton against Jacobs in the recording."One of the officers took his baton, lifted it in the air and forcefully shoved it into my a**," Jacobs said.A probable cause statement released by the Denver Police Department claims Jacobs was part of a group trying to push down a gate at Lincoln Park and adds that they managed to bring it down and get inside.But in the video, Jacobs is outside of the fence.The police report states Jacobs violently resisted arrest and even grabbed an officer's pepper ball gun. It's a claim Jacobs and his attorney, Dr. Matt Greife, dispute."That could not be further from the truth," Jacobs said."To say that he attempted to disarm a police officer of their pepper gun or pepper ball gun, that's nonsense, he was on the ground way too fast," Dr. Greife said.According to Dr. Greife, it's been challenging to obtain vital evidence they should be granted to prepare for a lawsuit and a civil claim they plan to file."We should know what the police reports say. We should know what the body cams tell us," Dr. Greife said.Denver police say they launched an internal investigation and added that it would be inappropriate to comment further.Medical records provided by Jacobs' attorney to KMGH show a doctor couldn't conclusively identify sexual abuse from the incident.Jacobs is facing a felony charge of attempting to disarm a police officer. To have 13-year-olds addicted to nicotine is pretty bad," said Colleen Campbell a senior at South High School."JUULing is the most popular one," said Abdi Bhandari, a senior at Mountain Vista High School.An epidemic that has even gotten Governor John Hickenlooper's attention. He recently signed an executive order to urge state lawmakers to act to curb youth vaping.Hickenlooper is asking them to raise the minimum age to buy e-cigarettes to 21 and to consider banning flavored tobacco."It is right now, one in four teenagers in Colorado that are vaping," Hickenlooper told students at a packed auditorium at South High School."It is becoming a huge national problem and it's even bigger locally," said Dr. Megan Moini, a pediatrician at Centura Health in Erie.Moini is on the front lines of the vaping debate and said she has seen more and more teens get addicted to vaping."Boulder County, for example, has about three times the national average of vaping use among high schoolers," she said.Moini also said she thinks it's time for the state to crackdown and believes teens are being fooled into thinking vaping is safe and natural."Hopefully, we're getting a hold of it sooner than we did with cigarettes," she said. "The advertisers know what they're doing."Justin Zamora is a daily vape user and is also an employee at a local vape shop."I don't think it's fair because this is helping more people than it's hurting," he said.From Zamora's perspective, underage vaping is like underage anything."I hate it because it's just like they're scrutinizing our industry when there's underage drinkers, there's underage weed smokers, there's underage tobacco smokers," he explained.Zamora also said he has seen firsthand how vaping can help customers kick their cigarette habit."I've had customers come in reeking of cigarettes and then a couple weeks later they smell like vape coming in and they're like 'hey man' 'thank you'," he said.The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment released results of the Colorado Healthy Kids Survey earlier this year, which showed Colorado ranked the highest for youth vaping out of 37 states surveyed across the United States.According to the survey, only 7 percent of high school students currently smoke cigarettes, while 27 percent said they vape nicotine. The statewide school survey shows 87 percent of Colorado high school students think cigarette smoking is risky, but only 50 percent believe those risks apply to vaping nicotine.The CDPHE said a separate, more comprehensive state survey shows about half of Colorado high school students have tried vaping nicotine, don’t see it as risky and think vaping products are easy to get, even though it is illegal to purchase them as minors.While no one seems to argue, teen vaping is a problem. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) — There's something of a spectacle along the beach in Del Mar these days: A bulldozer that's helping to preserve the city's main attraction.The heavy equipment is taking wet sand from the water line up to the public entrance areas, where it will protect access points to the beach. On Wednesday, the work was being done near the 23rd Street entrance. On Tuesday, it was closer to homes near 29th Street. "Without a beach in Del Mar, we're not Del Mar," said Councilman Dwight Worden. Worden says the bulldozer can only do so much. In the bigger picture, the city is negotiating with the California Coastal Commission on how it can combat rising sea levels. Worden noted that scientists have predicted the sea level to rise by six feet by the year 2100. "If it rises, it's going to erode the beaches, if it floods more from climate change, we'll have more flood water coming down and putting them at risk, so it's a combination," he said.Worden says the city has a plan to preserve its beaches through at least 2050 largely through a sand replenishment program, which the commission has not approved. He said Del Mar has put a controversial plan called "Managed Retreat" off the table. Managed Retreat could entail removing the multi-million dollar homes that line the shore to allow the beach to expand inland. The Coastal Commission has given the city 25 suggestions on its plan. Worden, however, said some of those suggestions appear to be nudging the city toward practices that could be like Managed Retreat. "If you look at the 25 changes, they're kind of gumming around that back and through the kitchen door," he said. The two agencies will next meet in February. McKinley said while travel search engine sites can give you options, going to a travel agent may be better. "This day in age, you might think, 'Hey I should go online. It might be easier and cheaper.’ But travel agents generally don't charge for their services, and they got their expertise because they do this all the time," McKinley said.Resorts in the Caribbean may be having deals right now due to hurricane Irma, but AAA recommends to do your homework on the region and resort to make sure everything is operational before booking. “If you see these really good deals, that you can’t believe.
