CHANGSHA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has warned that China's macro economic control policy is facing mounting difficulties with the severity of the international financial crisis and the unpredictable nature of the global economic recovery."China's current economy remains good, but the domestic and international environment is extremely complicated," Wen said while addressing a symposium held Saturday in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.The symposium, which was presided over by Premier Wen, was thrown to feature economic situation in three provinces of Hubei, Hunan and Guangdong.At the symposium, Wen reiterated the government's stance in maintaining the continuity and stability of macro economic policies, and making these macro policies more flexible and targeted.Wen said the government would "work to promote stable and relatively fast domestic economic growth, restructure the economy and manage inflation expectations to ensure the government's goals for 2010 are met."The government would endeavor to resolve long-term structural problems while targeting urgent issues, Wen said.Before the symposium, Wen also inspected flood prevention and control efforts in parts of Hunan Thursday, and moved on to Changsha, the provincial capital, to visit a number of other venues including companies ranging from machinery, outsourcing to animation companies Friday.While inspecting the companies, Wen enquired about their business, employment and social security, and encouraged them to step up innovation."An internationally competitive enterprise needs products of the best quality, world-leading patent technologies and generations of excellent staff," Wen said when talking with employees in Sany Group, a Changsha-based leading Chinese engineering machinery manufacturer.Wen talked with employers and job hunters at a job market in Changsha. BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of people gathered at the Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing early Sunday morning to watch a national flag hoisted to full height and then lowered to half-mast, mourning victims of a massive mudslide in northwest China's Zhouqu County one week ago.A flag at half-mast is also seen at Xinhuamen, the main entrance of Zhongnanhai, the headquarters of the Communist Party of China and the central government, as part of the one-day national mourning.The State Council announced Saturday that Chinese flags across the country and at overseas embassies and consulates would be lowered to half-mast Sunday to mourn the victims of the devastating mudslide.Public entertainment will be suspended Sunday in a show of mourning, said the announcement by the State Council, China's cabinet.The mudslide hit Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southern Gansu Province, on Aug. 8, leaving 1,239 people dead and 505 missing.Soon after Sunday midnight, front pages of Chinese websites turned to black and white, in a show of mourning.Public recreational activities, such as movies, karaoke, and on-line entertainment including games and music are set to be suspended Sunday, according to an urgent circular issued by the Ministry of Culture.Mourning ceremonies will also be held Sunday in Zhouqu County and Lanzhou, capital city of Gansu. A silent tribute will be observed at 10 a.m..Sunday is the seventh day since the mudslide occurred and, according to some Chinese traditions, the seventh day after a death marks the height of the mourning period.Large-scale national displays of mourning are rare in China.China observed a three-day national mourning period after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, and a one-day national mourning after the Yushu quake on April 14 this year.On both occasions, the national flag was lowered to half-mast and all public entertainment was suspended.

BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) issued a commendation on Thursday to award honorary titles to 36 grassroots Party organs and 30 Party members for their great dedication and sacrifice in providing assistance following the earthquake in Yushu of northwest Qinghai Province on April 14.A statement of the commendation released by Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee said that the Party organs and members had shown leading examples in responding and assisting following the devastating disaster, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee.One of those awarded Party members, Yang Yong, died in a car accident which occurred while returning home after finishing a medical assignment in quake-hit Yushu.Yang served as vice director of the emergency response office with the health department of the Sichuan provincial government.The CPC Central Committee called on Party members and organs to learn from the awarded individuals, to maintain their loyalty to the Party and obey the Party's disciplines so as to make more contributions to the all-round construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
