With one week until election day, the campaigns for President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee are hitting the trail with full force, as the candidates and their surrogates crisscross the country to make their final pitch to voters. And based on Tuesday's campaign stops, it appears Trump is playing defense while Biden is playing offense.Trump has an extremely packed campaign schedule on Tuesday with three planned rallies in Michigan, Wisconsin and in Omaha, Nebraska — all states and districts that Trump won in 2016, and likely needs to carry in 2020 if he hopes to win again. On the Democratic side, Biden will be making two campaign appearances in Georgia — a state that has voted for a Republican in the last six presidential elections. However, polls show that that the Peach State is a toss-up this year, and a Biden win in what has been a Republican stronghold could cause Trump's electoral map to crumble.Top aides for the candidates will also be out in full force on Tuesday. First lady Melania Trump — who rarely appears solo on the campaign trail — will deliver a stump speech in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania at 2 p.m. ET. Pennsylvania is one of the "Blue Wall" states that Trump flipped in the 2016 election, but recent polls show the state leaning toward Biden this year.Last week, Melania Trump canceled a scheduled campaign to Pennsylvania because of a "lingering" cough following her and her husband's COVID-19 diagnosis earlier this month.Former President Barack Obama also returned to the campaign trail on Tuesday, attending a drive-in event in the key battleground state of Florida. While campaigning for Biden, Obama decried Republicans' attempts to dismantle his landmark legislation — the Affordable Care Act — while simultaneously promising a replacement plan that has yet to materialize.Obama also hit the Trump administration for their response to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for holding what proved to be a "superspreader" event while celebrating the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barett.“I lived in the White House ... You know, it's a controlled environment. You can take some preventive measures in the White House to avoid getting sick," Obama said. "Except this guy (Trump) can't seem to do it. He's turned the White House into a hot zone."Obama also slammed Trump's foreign policy agenda, criticizing him for his embrace of dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un."You think he's going to stand up to dictators? He thinks Lesley Stahl is a bully," Obama said, referencing Trump's decision to walk away from a "60 Minutes" interview last week. After watching the 2020 primary race from the sideline, Obama has thrown his full weight behind Biden and made several campaign appearances in recent days. 2791
YORBA LINDA (CNS) - A 40-year-old Long Beach woman is being held on possible charges including attempted murder after allegedly driving her car into a group of Black Lives Matter protesters and counter demonstrators in Yorba Linda. The BLM protest against police violence and systemic racism began at 2 p.m. Saturday on Imperial Highway and was interrupted by a much larger group of President Donald Trump supporters, who waved American flags and held pro-Trump signs. The Orange County Sheriff's Department declared the demonstration an unlawful assembly at 2:40 p.m. and ordered everyone to leave the area, Sgt. Dennis Breckner said.Tatiana Turner, a protester believed to be associated with the "Caravan of Justice" -- a car-based protest in solidarity with BLM -- was exiting the Yorba Linda Public Library parking lot when she allegedly drove her compact car through an intersection and struck a man and woman, according to OCSD PIO Carrie Braun."The man suffered two broken legs and the woman had major injuries," Breckner said. "Both were transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries."Breckner initially identified the male victim as a BLM demonstrator, but Braun said the department is no longer sure if that was the case, saying he might have been a counter-protester.Turner was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Braun said. She was being held on million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, according to Orange County jail records.Jason Mancuso, 46, of Anaheim, was arrested and jailed for refusing to leave after the unlawful assembly was declared, Braun said. He has a scheduled court date on Oct. 26, according to jail records.A total of 250 protesters converged at the scene, Breckner estimated, adding that everyone eventually left and roads were reopened.A 47-year-old Yorba Linda man at the protest, who would only give his name as Mike because he feared Antifa-leaning elements might seek to harm him, told City News Service that he's been getting together with a group of several dozen other locals every other week for patriotic rallies. He claimed he personally saw three Trump supporters injured by the car that was hemmed in and trying to drive away. But he also said the "Make America Great Again" demonstrators had been harassing the woman, causing the panicked look on her face."They started to pound on her car," he said, while clutching a carefully rolled up American flag. "It took damage."Mike told CNS he witnessed one female counter-protester get swept under the vehicle, as well as a male counter-protester who suffered an ankle injury. He said another male counter-protester suffered minor abrasions. The crowd included hundreds of pro-Trump supporters and about 100 to 150 Black Lives Matter demonstrators. 2818
but he has not yet committed to running in Colorado’s U.S. Senate race in an attempt to be the Democratic nominee who will face Republican Sen. Cory Gardner.Hickenlooper announced his leaving the Democratic presidential primary in a three-minute video released at 11 a.m.“Today, I’m ending my campaign for President. But I will never stop believing that America can only move forward when we work together,” Hickenlooper said in the videotaped statement. “Don’t tell me that we can’t figure out how to lower prescription drug costs or tackle climate change. Don’t tell me we have to accept the number of gun deaths or the reduced job prospects of too many Americans.”"I know everyone will keep up the good fight. In just a few months, we’ve laid out a path toward a more equitable economy that doesn’t lead us to extremes. I called on my personal experience leading Colorado through tragedy to build an effective nationwide plan for gun violence prevention. And we made the case that health care is a right, not a privilege, and should be treated as such," he wrote. "When I look back at what we’ve accomplished on this campaign, I feel proud to have had you by my side every step of the way. And when I do make my next move, you’ll be the first to know."Hickenlooper, 67, has been 1284
