SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A City Heights elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning following reports of gunfire in the area.San Diego Police responded to the call of shots fired near Colina del Sol Park at 5319 Orange Avenue just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.Fay Elementary - located across the street from the park - was placed on a precautionary lockdown, according to police. The lockdown was lifted within an hour.Two individuals were detained following the reports, but police did not confirm whether they were associated with the shooting. Police did say they are searching for one more individual.Police recovered shell casings at the scene, but would not say how many were recovered. No injuries have been reported.SDPD officers were on the scene Wednesday afternoon investigating.  840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Barrio Logan business is on a mission to help students become the first in their family to go to college. Called the Barrio Logan College Institute, the business helps kids learn how to get into college. The program began in 1996 and helps students from third grade all the way through college. So far, 204 students have participated in the program. The programs offered are free, but parents are required to donate their time. The business began out of the need to help students in underserved communities. According to the institute, only three percent of adults age 25 and older in Barrio Logan have a bachelor’s degree. The institute also says only 38 percent of those 25 and older in the community have a high school diploma. Through the institute, many students have been able to go on to attend college. 88 percent of students who have gone through the Barrio Logan College Institute’s College Success Program remain in college working toward a degree. For now, the institute is focused on moving to a new location within the Barrio Logan Community, so far raising .1 million of the needed .5 million to buy the building. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A developer is going back to the drawing board after a downtown agency blasted its affordable housing proposal Wednesday. Pinnacle planned to build a 58-unit low-income apartment complex at the corner of 11th and B. It would be attached to a 32-story market rate residential tower. While the buildings would be attached, they would have separate doors, no interior connections, and few shared amenities.Civic San Diego's board of directors rebuked the developer Wednesday. "You want to put us somewhere else," board member Robert Robinson said. "Are we not good enough to get on the top floor and look out at the ocean? That's what the message is here."David Dick, an attorney representing Pinnacle, said that was a misrepresentation of the intent. "It has to do with the realities of construction, cost financing, management and ownership," he said. Dick added that Pinnacle should be lauded for its willingness to fund much-needed affordable housing downtown, as opposed to paying an in-lieu fee that could take years to yield any units. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 21-year-old man was hospitalized Monday after he was stabbed in the back and arm by a home intruder in the Oak Park neighborhood, police said.It happened around 11:55 p.m. Sunday at a home on Fauna Drive, located off College Grove Drive just northwest of state Route 94, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.The victim went downstairs to get some milk for his daughter and found a man standing in his kitchen, Buttle said.A struggle ensued and the victim was stabbed in the back and the right arm before his assailant fled, the officer said.The victim's wife drove him to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Buttle said.No detailed suspect descriptions were immediately available.Detectives with the San Diego Police Department's southeastern division were investigating the stabbing. 872
