EL CAJON (CNS) - A 49-year-old man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of fatally shooting a 31-year-old man in an unincorporated area near El Cajon.Daniel Christopher Allen, a resident of that unincorporated area, was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murdering James Owen who also lived in unincorporated El Cajon, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The shooting was reported in the 6000 block of Stallion Oaks Road, southeast of Dehesa Road and northeast of the Sycuan Resort, around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said.Before deputies arrived, an acquaintance of Owen drove him about a mile and a half from the shooting scene, Seiver said.Deputies stopped the vehicle on Stallion Oaks near Dehesa and found Owen inside suffering from a gunshot wound. It was not immediately clear if Allen was the driver.Owen was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. 921

(KGTV) — East County authorities are searching for a reported person trying to lure students at a nearby elementary school.El Cajon Police said officials at Flying Hills Elementary requested extra patrols Thursday over concerns of someone trying to lure students. Police said a 9-year-old boy was in an alley near the 1300 block of North Cuyamaca St. when a man approached in a vehicle. The man waved to the boy and said "get in the car." The vehicle was described as a red sedan, while the suspect was described as a white man in his 20s, with a mustache, red shirt, and black baseball hat.Police said they are aware of two other separate incidents as well. The first was on Tuesday in the 100 block of South Mollison Ave. A 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in a vehicle as she was walking to school. The man asked her a question and made a sexual comment before driving away, police said.The man was described as a white man, with balding dark hair, "scruffy" unshaven face, and possibly wearing a gray shirt and gray pants.The second incident occurred that same day just after 3:15 p.m. on Swallow Dr. A 13-year-old girl was walking home east of Finsh St. when man on foot approached her and said "come with me, I'm safe." He was described as a white man in his 40s, with a gray beard, short dark hair, and last seen wearing tan shorts, a dark shirt, black baseball hat, and black backpack.Police are investigating all three incidents, but said they do not believe they are related. Police have increased patrols in the area and at nearby schools.School staff from Lakeside Middle School also reported a suspicious incident as well just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Don’t expect BLM and social justice messages on basketball courts or jerseys in the NBA next season, according to league Commissioner Adam Silver.The 2020 NBA season has gotten a lot of attention for both the league’s response to the coronavirus pandemic with a “bubble” and their public embrace of social justice issues and the Black Lives Matter movement this summer.During a NBA Countdown interview on ESPN ahead of a playoff game earlier this week, Silver was asked about the league championing social justice and civil rights, but as Silver noted in a press conference recently, that has not been universally popular.“How committed are you to being that going forward?” host Rachel Nichols asked.Silver quickly responded, “We’re completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality. It’s part of the DNA of this league.”He then said changes could come in how that commitment is manifested. The commissioner acknowledged the league has to sit down with the players and discuss for next season.“I would say in terms of the messages you see on the court on our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time, when we began the discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer,” Silver said.In July, when the league restarted their 2020 season from a so-called bubble in Orlando, “Black Lives Matter” was painted on the court floor. Echoing sentiments shared before Thanksgiving, the CDC is pleading with Americans to stay home this holiday season to slow the spread of the coronavirus."The best thing for Americans to do in the upcoming holiday season is to stay at home and not travel,'' said Dr. Henry Walke, CDC's COVID-19 incident manager, during a news briefing Wednesday."Cases are rising. Hospitalizations are increasing, Deaths are increasing. We need to try to bend the curve, stop this exponential increase,'' Walke continued.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had similar advice ahead of Thanksgiving, and still the TSA reported some of the highest rates of passengers since the pandemic started in the few days ahead of the holiday. On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the TSA screened 1.17 million travelers, a record high since the pandemic started.For those who decide to travel, the CDC now recommends people get tested for COVID-19 both before and after their trips. Their guidance is to test one to three days before travel and again three to five days after travel. They also strongly recommend reducing nonessential activities and quarantining for several days around travel.Health experts, including the White House coronavirus task force is urging those who don’t get tested to act like they could be infectious and quarantine after travel to reduce the potential spread.Walke said the CDC expects to see an increase in the already high level of coronavirus cases in the next few days from Thanksgiving travel.There have been more than 13.7 million positive cases of coronavirus in this country since the pandemic started, more than 180,000 new cases were recorded December 2.
