VISTA (CNS) - An Oceanside man convicted of abusing his neighbors' dogs, including gouging out the eye of a Siberian Husky, was sentenced to nearly 10 years in custody Friday.Jurors last summer found 37-year-old David C. The dog has never been found and is presumed dead.Police found a small amount of blood in Herbert's car and on a baseball bat he owned.Herbert, who represented himself at trial, testified that Lala jumped in his car and he was about to take her to a shelter when she jumped out and ran off. 1580

VISTA (CNS) - A homeless man accused of fatally stabbing a fellow transient outside an Escondido fast-food restaurant was ordered today to stand trial on a murder charge.John Christopher Burns, 48, is accused of stabbing Jose De Jesus Martinez in the neck shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, outside the Burger King on West Valley Parkway.According to preliminary hearing testimony, witnesses said Burns made statements indicating he believed the 32-year-old victim was trying to steal his bicycle, which had been left outside the restaurant.Martinez was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Escondido Police Department.Burns was arrested by San Diego County sheriff's deputies at the Pala Casino one day after Martinez's death.He's due back in court Sept. 2 for a Superior Court arraignment. 844

The high court’s 7-2 decision applies to people who fail their initial asylum screenings, making them eligible for quick deportation, or expedited removal. (KGTV) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.6 rumbled Southern California Sunday morning.According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake happened before 7:20 a.m. southwest of Warner Springs.The quake was originally reported as a 3.8 magnitude, but was later downgraded to a 3.6, the USGS reports.People throughout the county immediately took to social media to report the event. "Heard it more than I felt it," one Facebook user said. "Very strong I feel it around 7:20," another added. Other residents in Santee, Spring Valley, San Marcos, and Poway reported the shaking. 624

(KGTV) - For the third time in recent months, a local Boy Scout troop is coping with a heartbreaking theft.As they were getting ready to leave on a camping trip Friday, Boy Scout Troop 722 in Vista realized their camping trailer was gone.Without a trailer, future trips are now in jeopardy.The trailer was parked in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church parking lot when someone broke the padlock and stole the trailer. Because the troop has dealt with vandalism in the past, all their gear is kept in a shipping container. The trailer has a unique bolt on its door, which was put in to prevent people from breaking in.Replacing the trailer will cost the troop ,000.Community members can donate on a Go Fund Me page set up for the troop. If you spot the trailer, contact the Vista Sheriff's Department.In September, a Chula Vista Troop's trailer was stolen, as well as one earlier this month one in University City.
