SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Former Congressman Duncan Hunter Sr. called his son’s opponent in the November election a threat to national security to his face on Tuesday.Hunter Sr., the father of Congressman Duncan D. Hunter, held what he called a “security briefing” on Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar across from the U.S.S Midway Museum. Campa-Najjar is running against Duncan D. Hunter for his seat in the 50th Congressional District. Congressman Hunter and his wife Margaret are currently facing 60 federal charges of wire fraud and conspiracy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Detectives are searching for two suspects who shot a 17-year-old in the back in Golden Hill Sunday, according to San Diego Police.The shooting happened on the 2700 block of Treat Street around 9:20 p.m.The teenage boy was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said.San Diego Police said the shooting is suspected to be gang-related and detectives are searching for two suspects.The two suspects were described by police as Hispanic men driving a white or silver sedan.Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to gall the San Diego Police gang unit at 619-531-2847 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 671

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For comic, movie, and science-fiction fanatics, getting to Comic-Con is a dream come true.For one San Diego military family, it was extra special because experiencing it as a family was never guaranteed. "I actually brought Mason and Annabelle when he was on deployment to Syria, and he was kind of bummed he wasn't coming," said Lindsey Stacy, referring to her husband Kenton.It was on that deployment when Kenton, a Navy EOD Tech, was critically injured by an improvised explosive device (IED). He was given just a two percent chance of survival but ultimately overcame the odds. "He's just made so many miraculous recoveries, and I'm praying there's more to come," said Lindsey.While Kenton's story has inspired thousands around the world, few know of his love for all things cartoons and superheroes. Their firstborn Logan was named after X-Men's Wolverine. "I always said he's this big tough guy but he's like a comic book and Star Wars nerd underneath!"So Lindsey put out the call for help to bring Kenton to Comic-Con."People were just so willing to help make this dream come true for Kenton," she said. Both Comic-Con International and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund stepped up to provide the family and Kenton's caregivers with four-day badges. The convention says it's dedicated to serving people of all abilities; providing a rest area, loaning out wheelchairs, and providing volunteer sign language interpreters for deaf guests. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Despite criticism, a spokesperson for the California Republican Party told ABC 10News on Tuesday that the party will continue placing unofficial ballot drop boxes around communities.They've popped up in Orange, Los Angeles, and Fresno counties, but so far none have been reported in San Diego. Several have been labeled "official", as confirmed by CA GOP spokesperson Hector Barajas. “We could've had better wording on the ballot boxes and so we changed some of the wording around already on the ballot boxes but the important thing to remember is that these ballot boxes are inside our campaign headquarters or inside of businesses or other organizations. It's not as though they're outside in front of a mailbox or outside a library or a secondhand store or another place of business,” he told ABC 10News.On Monday, California's Secretary of State and the State Attorney General sent a cease and desist to the GOP, calling the boxes illegal. Some argue that the boxes are deceptive and could lead to tampering. “These boxes are not the same as county election drop boxes that are required to meet state security standards,” said California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.Barajas told ABC 10News, “What is happening right now is the Secretary of State -- with this cease and desist -- is basically looking to engage in voter suppression [by] eliminating more options for individuals to be able to drop off their ballot.”Barajas said that "ballot harvesting" is a practice that allows a third party to collect voters' completed ballots and was legalized four years ago in a bill authored by San Diego Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez.A tweet Tuesday from one of Gonzalez’s accounts reads, "Apparently, Republicans in our legislature think that when I wrote that a voter could designate a 'person' to turn in their ballot, they thought I meant a fraudulently labeled box. I'm terribly sorry. I will define person next time.”When asked how many boxes the GOP has placed around the state, Barajas responded, “We're not giving an exact number but we will say that we've got them statewide and with the amount of press we've gotten on this we're considering maybe even doubling or tripling our efforts.”The San Diego County Registrar of Voters reports it has already received 175,000 completed ballots.
