(KGTV) -- Special counsel Robert Mueller's team issued more than 2,800 subpoenas and executed nearly 500 search warrants in its probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election and any potential involvement by President Donald Trump's campaign.That's according to Attorney General William Barr's letter to Congress on Sunday summarizing the findings. The special counsel employed 19 lawyers and was assisted by a team of 40 FBI agents, intelligence analysts, forensic accountants and other professional staff. WEST CHESTER TWP., Ohio — West Chester Police are investigating a racist letter one family said was mailed to them earlier in the week. The letter, laden with racial slurs and derogatory language, demands the family take down their yard signs supporting President-elect Joe Biden and the Black Lives Matter movement.Mia Harlan said when her husband Brian opened a letter from the mail late last week, his reaction told her it wasn't a typical piece of mail."The way he responded, the way he acted, told me something wasn't right," Harlan said.The Harlans have a Black Lives Matter flag and a Biden campaign sign in their yard; the letter the couple received threatens vandalism if the signs aren't taken down.It states, in part, "if you don't take that s*** down in a hurry, we'll be aiming at your house, your cars and you."Racial slurs and expletives in the letter have been censored.Harlan said she was disgusted and angry, and the couple reported the letter to West Chester Police."Stay away from my family," she said. "Stay away from my property...what else would they do? Will they actually come to our home and try to harm us? Or try to harm our children? Our grandchildren?"The Harlans said they're taking extra precautions to stay safe, but refuse to take down the signs in their yard."My message for them is, if you don't understand what you see when this sign here saying 'Black Lives Matter,' if you don't understand the message here, then this is absolutely the thing that needs to be here," Brian Harland said.Barbara Wilson, spokeswoman for West Chester Township, released the following statement on Monday:"The matter is being taken very seriously by the West Chester Police Department. WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden is naming Susan Rice as director of the White House Domestic Policy Council.The role will give her broad sway over his administration’s approach to immigration, health care and racial inequality and elevates the prominence of the position in the West Wing.He is also nominating former President Barack Obama’s White House chief of staff Denis McDonough as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The sprawling agency has presented organizational challenges for both parties over the years.In tapping Rice and McDonough for the roles, Biden is continuing to stockpile his administration with prominent alumni of the Obama administration.Under Obama, Rice served as National Security Advisor from 2013 to 2017. She was also a U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations and a member of the Cabinet from 2009 to 2013.As for McDonough, he served as White House chief of staff from 2013 to 2017. WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that the U.S. hopes to gain access soon to a former Marine who was arrested in Russia on espionage charges and that "if the detention is not appropriate we will demand his immediate return."Paul Whelan, who is head of global security for a Michigan-based auto parts supplier, was arrested on Friday. In announcing the arrest three days later, the Russian Federal Security Service said he was caught "during an espionage operation," but it gave no details.Whelan, 48, was in Moscow to attend a wedding when he suddenly disappeared, his brother David Whelan said Tuesday.Pompeo, speaking in Brazil, said the U.S. is "hopeful within the next hours we'll get consular access to see him and get a chance to learn more."The U.S. has "made clear to the Russians our expectation that we will learn more about the charges and come to understand what it is he's been accused of and if the detention is not appropriate we will demand his immediate return," Pompeo said.Whelan's family said in a statement David Whelan posted on Twitter, "We are deeply concerned for his safety and well-being. His innocence is undoubted and we trust that his rights will be respected."The Russian spying charges carry a prison sentence of up to 20 years.David Whelan said in an interview that his brother had been to Russia several times previously, so when a fellow former Marine was planning a wedding in Moscow with a Russian woman he was asked to go along to help out.The morning of his arrest, he had taken a group of wedding guests on a tour of the Kremlin museums. The last time anyone heard from him was at about 5 p.m. and then he failed to show up that evening for the wedding, his brother said."It was extraordinarily out of character," he said.The family feared he had been mugged or was in a car accident, David Whelan said, and it was when searching the internet on Monday that he learned of the arrest."I was looking for any stories about dead Americans in Moscow, so in a way it was better than finding out that he had died," he said.The State Department said Monday it had received formal notification from the Russian Foreign Ministry of the arrest and was pushing for consular access. David Whelan said the family was told by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow they have not been able to speak to Paul Whelan.David Whelan said he has no idea why his brother was targeted by the Russian security services.
