SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man who neighbors say was acting erratically in the Middletown neighborhood on Sunday was pronounced dead shortly after police arrived and found him lying in the street.San Diego Police officers received numerous calls regarding a man screaming, vandalizing a vehicle, and stripping his clothes off at Columbia Street near Sassafras St. just after 12:30 p.m. Police said officers arrived and were directed to the man, who was lying down in the street. Officers placed the man in handcuffs but noticed he was in medical distress. They took the handcuffs off the man and began CPR, police say. A witness who was a doctor also helped perform CPR until San Diego Fire-Rescue arrived, but the man died at the scene, according to SDPD.The man was not identified by name, but police said he was a black male in his mid-thirties.SDPD homicide detectives are investigating the death out of "an abundance of caution," police said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan to essentially force 16 Lemon Grove teachers to resign was approved Tuesday night in a 3-2 vote. The Lemon Grove School District informed the teachers that it would move in a different direction at the end of this school year. The teachers were at the district for two years, the end of their probationary period. Any more time and they would become permanent. The district says it will replace those positions with new teachers for next year. "Our governing board believes that each child deserves the very best," the district said in a statement. "We will continue to provide that to you in Lemon Grove School District.""Why aren't we maintaining the teachers that have been here and have built relationships with our children? Built relationships with our parents? With our community," parent Rosa Carney said. Angela Vento, who has four children in the district, said her 9-year-old son Joshua was upset when he found out his teacher would be let go."She's always there for him," Vento said. "He has epilepsy and she helps him through that."Two teachers who asked to remain anonymous said the district gave them a choice of resigning, or being terminated with a non-renewal status. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man is dead after a hit-and-run driver struck him on Interstate 5 near Old Town overnight.Officers said the man was found lying dead in the middle of the highway at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, prompting a closure of I-5 lanes for several hours.Only a bumper was found near the man, officers said. The man was not immediately identified.The suspected car, a 2004 Honda Accord, was located nearby at a gas station off the highway. Officer said they have the vehicle's license plate as well.The driver has yet to be located. 568
