SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A driver was taken into custody after a passenger in his car died following in a crash in Paradise Hills early Wednesday morning.According to San Diego police, an 18-year-old driver and four passengers were in a car traveling westbound in the 6100 block of Paradise Valley Road at around 2 a.m. when the crash occurred.Police said the driver tried to make “an unsafe left” onto southbound Munda Road, but the car veered off the roadway and went down an embankment.All five people were able to get out of the car and made their way back to the street, but police said an 18-year-old girl had to be taken to the hospital.The girl, who was not identified, later died at the hospital from internal injuries.The driver fled the scene, but officers -- with the help of a helicopter overhead -- found him hiding in bushes a few blocks away surrounded by coyotes.Jail records obtained by ABC 10News show the driver, identified as 18-year-old Eduardo Douglas Jones, was booked on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run causing death/injury, and DUI.The crash remains under investigation. 1119

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 28-year-old man has been arrested after police say he set fire to a Chula Vista pro-rent control office.According to Chula Vista Police, Christopher Treyvoun Jenkins was arrested Tuesday on multiple charges, including burglary and arson.On Friday, Police responded to a burglary alarm at the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment.When they arrived, officers noticed a large plume of smoke coming from the suite. The Chula Vista Fire Department arrived and extinguished the flames. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A college student from San Diego is in custody Monday, accused of threatening to open fire on a school campus. Last week, a person posted a screenshot of what investigators believe is a text conversation with Trevor Faison in which he sent a message threatening to “shoot up the school.” Exactly which school he was referring to was initially unclear. According to Chief Joseph Ramos at the San Diego Community College District, Faison had been a student at Mesa College last semester but was no longer enrolled. Ramos said Faison is currently attending Saddleback College in Orange County. According to Gerry Braun, a spokesperson for the San Diego City Attorney's Office, police eventually "determined the criminal threat was made against an individual at La Jolla High School."RELATED: Team 10: The City Attorney's office effort to obtain gun violence restraining ordersBraun added, "there is another pending case in Orange County with similar circumstances." SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego area residents are among the contestants on Thursday evening's episode of the ABC miniature golf series "Holey Moley," including Avis Brown-Riley, who played in the 1988 U.S. Women's Open but missed the cut after two rounds."It was a spectacular and exhilarating experience, now I know what the movie stars experience while filming and one that I always treasure," she said of her miniature golf experience. "The Disney/ABC television production staff rolled out the red carpet and treated all the contestants like royalty. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A false alarm prompted a brief evacuation at San Diego International Airport Saturday afternoon.Travelers were evacuated just before 1:30 p.m., with photos on social media showing travelers gathering outside Terminal 1 and on the tarmac outside Terminal 1 gates.Video showed a fire alarm sounding through Terminal 1 directing travelers to the closest exit.San Diego airport officials said a fire alarm did sound, however, it was a false alarm — though sure to irritate a few travelers at least.RELATED: 10News Flight TrackerNo injuries were reported.
