SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was hospitalized after becoming stuck in a cargo elevator shaft at a downtown grocery store.San Diego Fire-Rescue was called to Ralph's grocery store on G St. just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday to a report of someone stuck in the elevator. Crews arrived to find a man who had been working on the elevator trapped in the elevator shaft.Firefighters worked to free the man and take him to a nearby hospital. The extent of his injuries wasn't immediately known.A witness who works at the grocery store said the man was working on the cargo shaft when someone pressed the elevator button, trapping the man inside. 640

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local truck owner is making an emotional plea for the return of one of his late father's prized possessions.The empty space that greeted Brad Mouw in front of his San Carlos home on Ballinger Avenue hit him with a flood of emotions Thursday morning."Hurt, violated, and angry," said Mouw.His 2008 Dodge Dakota pickup was gone.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"My heart was broken. That truck belonged to my dad. He loved his truck. He drove it to work every day," said Mouw, choking back tears.Mouw says the truck is something his dad Marvin held close to his heart, even as he battled dementia.   Marvin Mouw passed away in 2016 in Iowa. His beloved truck was eventually driven to San Diego."I got to see my dad every day.  Pretty much think about my father every day I get into my truck," said Mouw.On Thursday, those precious moments disappeared before his eyes, as he watched his surveillance video. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new pilot program in San Diego hopes to break the barrier between older adults and ridesharing apps. Together, Jewish Family Service (JFS) and the Ed Brown Center are testing an outreach and education program connecting older adults with free ridesharing services so they can participate in health and wellness programs.The pilot program is part of a partnership with Lyft and the National Council on Aging (NCOA). The Ed Brown Center was one of three senior centers selected from across the country.The goal is to understand whether ridesharing can improve an older adult’s well-being by enabling them to travel to their local senior center to take part in activities such as health classes, nutrition programs, lifelong learning, and social opportunities.JFS partnered with Lyft two years ago to provide rides to seniors and individuals receiving breast cancer treatment. Called “On the Go: Navigator,” the program allows older adults to easily book rides to the grocery store, doctor’s appointments and more, without a smartphone. With this service, seniors must pay for the trip, as well as a service fee. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A San Diego fire captain convicted of domestic violence was sentenced Wednesday.Steven Michaels received three years probation, 52 weeks of counseling and 180 days of custody which will be served in a county parole and alternative custody program, according to City News Service.Michaels, a veteran fire captain with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, pleaded guilty in 2017 to shoving his girlfriend against a wall and refusing to let her use a phone to call for help, CNS reported.RELATED: Veteran San Diego fire captain pleads guilty to domestic violence chargeMichaels filed a request to have the felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor, but Judge Timothy Walsh denied the request citing a history of alcohol-related incidents of domestic violence.The felony conviction will likely cause Michaels to lose his job."He's taken away his career," said Walsh," if there is a career left. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to selling fentanyl to a 26-year-old La Mesa woman who overdosed in 2018, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.Uriah Odish, 28, was charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl and faces 14 and a half years in prison with five years of parole.According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, "Odish sold more than 500 grams of what he knew to be fentanyl between 2017 and the day of the fatal overdose."Tiffany Hansen died from that fatal dose. Her mother Keri Cuppage said Odish apologized Wednesday, "he asked for forgiveness and said he was very very sorry that his decisions led to Tiffany's death."She replied, "my biggest hope is that the time served in jail will help him and he will be able to beat his addiction."She said Tiffany loved the beach and all things Disney. After she passed, Cuppage had her ashes formed into a sea turtle and placed at the Neptune Memorial Reef. The reef is an underwater memorial created to look like the Lost City of Atlantis, off the coast of Miami Florida.Cuppage said every day after Tiffany's death is a struggle. "Every time I get a joyful emotion, it's just a backwash of sad. Not a day has gone by that I haven't cried, that I don't miss her desperately."She urges everyone to stay away from fentanyl, saying death or sentencing your loved ones to a lifetime of sadness isn't worth the high.
