Tuesday marks the final day for Americans to sign up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.Tuesday marks the last day for open enrollment for the public health insurance commonly referred to as "Obamacare."The COVID-19 pandemic has left millions without a job and more vulnerable to health issues than ever. While many Americans will be without employer-provided healthcare, people in most states are still able to pick a public plan through the Affordable Care Act.According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 3.8 million Americans have selected a health care plan provided through the Affordable Care Act during the current enrollment period. Between Nov. 29 and Dec. 5 alone, more than 900,000 Americans selected a public health care plan.To sign up for a plan through to the Affordable Care Act, visit HealthCare.gov and click "take the first steps to apply." TUCSON, AZ - The United States Customs and Border Patrol says several agents were assaulted in two different incidents on Tuesday.Both incidents happened near the border, west of Tucson.In the first incident, agents were attempting to stop a human smuggling operation involving four male suspects. During the arrest attempt, one of the men became combative, according to Border Patrol.The 25-year-old Guatemalan national allegedly threw dirt at an agent’s face and swung a belt with a large buckle on it at an agent. After being taken into custody, the suspect also allegedly spit in an agent’s face.The three other suspects, including two illegal aliens and an Arizona man, were also arrested.In the second incident, Border Patrol says an agent was assaulted while attempting to arrest an illegal alien west of Three Points. The agent and a canine partner tracked the 36-year-old Guatemalan national into a desolate desert area. The man became combative and hit the agent several times, according to Border Patrol. The agent eventually took the man into custody. The suspect involved in the second assault was previously removed from the country in May for immigration violations. One agent was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and has been released.Border Patrol did not indicate which incident that agent was involved in. 1360

Two young brothers in Peoria, Arizona, are hoping to bring smiles to COVID-19 patients by sending homemade cards to Valley hospitals.Hurshneet and Pravneet Chadha said they created "Project Smile AZ" to spread positivity. They got the idea after listening to their parents, who are both doctors, speak about COVID-19 patients going through treatment alone in hospitals."We wanted to make them feel accompanied on their journey to get better," said 15-year-old Hurshneet. "We want to make sure everyone is fine, and we want to make sure everyone is happy."When they started, they delivered 150 cards to Banner Health. The response was so great that they decided to keep going."We've had many people reach out to us to send cards to our PO box, as well as hospital CEOs have reached out to us, sending us thank you letters to our email so that made us very proud," he said.Now, they've distributed 1,200 cards to the Navajo Nation, Circle the City, a nonprofit, and several hospitals in the Valley."It helps the patients when we give it to them, and they're saying they put a smile on their faces when they receive them as well, so that's my favorite part," said 12-year-old Pravneet.Through social media, they've gotten classmates and other groups to donate cards, but they make most of them in their living room."We come up with anything that we think would inspire the patient," said Hurshneet. (KGTV) — A former North County school security guard was arrested this weekend, accused of sending inappropriate pictures to children online.Steven Lloyd Duncan, a former security guard from 2003 to 2014 at Valley Center High School, was arrested on Dec. 10 by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). He has been charged with multiple counts, including obscene material of a minor and luring a minor, according to his arrest log.Investigators say Duncan had communicated with and sent photos to underage children and received photos from children. Valley Center Pauma Unified School District (VCPUSD) said in a statement they have been informed told "none of the identifiable victims are from our community." Anyone who thinks they've been a victim or knows anyone who may have been a victim is asked to contact the ICAC at 858-715-7100.VCPUSD says they are cooperating with ICAC's investigation:"The safety of our students and staff is a top priority. We respond and react immediately to any reports of this nature. In partnership with the (ICAC), VCPUSD advises parents to be aware of their children's online activity.
