Ten people are dead and a 4 year-old boy remains missing after more than a week of severe weather across the central US that put tens of millions of people at risk. The deadly spring storm system ravaged several states, unleashing more than 170 reported tornadoes, fierce winds, drenching rain, flash flooding and hail.Saturday marked the tenth day in a row of tornado reports across the US, with two people killed after a possible twister tore through El Reno, Oklahoma.Canadian County Emergency Management Director Andrew Skidmore told CNN early Sunday that officials were still completing the search and rescue and would update numbers as they received them. When asked if they were expecting the death toll to rise, he responded "it's too early to tell."Earlier, Fire Chief Kent Lagaly said the suspected tornado struck a mobile home park.A hotel that sits adjacent to the park also suffered significant damage, Lagaly said. The state also suffered fatalities earlier in the week with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management reporting that a 53-year-old woman in Payne County and a 58-year-old man in Stephens County had died due to flooding and severe weather.A further 87 people were injured across the state, it said in a press release. On Friday, a state official said floods were believed to have impacted at least 1,000 homes, especially in northeastern Oklahoma around the swollen Arkansas River.By the afternoon, Gov. Kevin Stitt had amended an earlier executive order to declare a state of emergency in all 77 counties across the state due to the severe weather.4-year-old boy swept awayThe week's severe weather resulted in five deaths in Missouri. On Tuesday, a husband and wife in Missouri were killed when their SUV skidded across the center lines of US highway 160 and the vehicle struck a semitruck. Meanwhile, law enforcement said three people died in the Golden City area of Barton County. In Iowa, Linda Lee Brownlee, 74, was found dead in her destroyed home near the city of Adair early Wednesday after someone called 911. State officials said it appeared a tornado had hit the residence. In Indiana, a 4-year-old boy is missing after strong currents from heavy rains swept him away in Delphi, Indiana. The child, Owen Jones, was playing in Deer Creek on Thursday when he was swept away by fast currents.Heatwave in the southeast, cold in the westAs the stormy weather continues in some parts of the country, the holiday weekend is set to herald in the informal start of summer with record high temperatures forecast around the southeastern US.CNN meteorologist Allison Chinchar said new records could be set for high temperatures in dozens of cities, in states from Louisiana to Virginia, setting the stage for potentially deadly conditions.Anyone who spends time outdoors this weekend should keep hydrated, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and try to stay in the shade, she said.Several cities could see triple-digit temperatures. They include Columbia, South Carolina; Augusta, Georgia; and Tallahassee, Florida. Macon, Georgia, is expected to reach 100 degrees on Memorial Day, which would break its record high for May.But farther west, Chinchar said temperatures will remain far below average.Cities such as Las Vegas; Phoenix; Reno, Nevada; and Fresno, California will be 20 to 25 degrees below normal. Las Vegas is expected to have a high temperature Sunday and Monday of only 70 degrees, which is its average for March 15.Phoenix is expected to have a high temperature of 79 degrees on Memorial Day, its average high for March 25. 3588

The chairmen of three House committees subpoenaed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Friday over his failure to produce answers about Ukraine."Pursuant to the House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry, we are hereby transmitting a subpoena that compels you to produce the documents set forth in the accompanying schedule by October 4, 2019," the chairmen of the House Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight committees wrote in a letter to Pompeo. In addition to the subpoena, Reps. Adam Schiff, Eliot Engel and Elijah Cummings informed the top US diplomat in a separate letter that they had scheduled depositions for five State Department officials who have been mentioned in relation to the inquiry -- Ambassador Marie "Masha" Yovanovitch, Ambassador Kurt Volker, Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent, Counselor T. Ulrich Brechbuhl and Ambassador Gordon Sondland. The chairman of the three committees wrote to Pompeo on September 9 with a request for six categories of documents "related to reported efforts by President Trump and his associates to improperly pressure the Ukrainian government to assist the President's bid for reelection."That initial letter requested these materials by September 16. After that deadline was missed, Schiff, Engel and Cummings sent another letter on Monday warning that unless the documents were handed over, "our Committees will have no choice but to move towards compulsory process this week."The State Department had until Thursday to reply.Pompeo has not publicly addressed the State Department's role in Rudy Giuliani's dealings with Ukraine and the State Department has not responded to numerous requests for comment about the situation. 1696

The bill is signed and the federal trillion stimulus package is on the way.But many people are still confused and wonder if they will get a check for ,200.Here's what we do know about who will qualify for the stimulus funds laid out the CARES Act, as of April 8.Q: How will I receive my check? For those who received their last IRS tax refund via direct deposit, the money will go directly into their bank account. Those that received their refund the old-fashioned way, a check will come by mail. But that could take several months, the government says. The IRS is supposed to set up a portal on its website in the coming days, where anyone can update their bank account.Q: Will I qualify for a ,200 stimulus check?About 90% of adults should qualify for an initial ,200 stimulus payment, with a second payment possible later this spring. If they qualify:Individuals will receive a check for ,200.Married couples will receive a check for ,400.Each dependent child will receive 0 (payable to their parents). If your child is a college student who works a job, the rules are still murky as to who gets the check.Q: Who does not qualify for a check?High-income individuals will not receive a check.Benefits will phase out starting at ,000 in Adjusted Gross Income.Singles earning more than ,000 (Adjusted Gross Income) in 2019 will not receive any check.Married couples earning more than 8,000 in 2019 will not receive any check.Q: What if you owe back child support or back taxes?Right now, it does not appear the government will take anything out of stimulus checks for unpaid taxes or other government liens. However, the Wall Street Journal says back child support will likely be taken out of checks.Q: What if you get Social Security and do not file taxes?Seniors on Social Security and younger people on disability will now qualify for a check automatically. Those that receive Social Security do not have to file any tax forms, and the check will go to the same bank account (or mailbox) where they receive monthly benefit checks. However, younger people with very little income and not file taxes must have filed taxes last year or this spring in order to receive a check. That check will be based on your 2018 or 2019 tax return. So younger people must file a 1040 this spring, or the government has no way of knowing if they qualify.Q: What if some of your income is unreported cash? That should not affect the checks, as they are based on the last tax return a person has filed.Q: When will I receive my money?Congressional leaders hope to have the first checks heading to bank accounts in the next week or two. However, if the IRS does not have a bank account number on file, it could be three months before paper checks arrive. As always, don't waste your money._______________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. The 5-year-old boy who was tossed off a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America in Minnesota in April is now back at home.An update on the family-run GoFundMe account says the boy -- who fell from nearly 40 feet -- completed his inpatient rehabilitation and will now enter "the next phase of recovery.""(This) includes continued outpatient rehabilitation for multiple injuries and adjusting to life back at home and school," the update read. The boy, who has not been publicly identified, was outside a café with his mother when 24-year-old Emmanuel Aranda came close to them, picked up the child and threw him over the railing.Aranda told police he had come to the mall a day earlier intending to kill an adult, but that did not "work out," according to the criminal complaint. He returned a day later and chose the child.Aranda pleaded guilty in May to attempted premediated first-degree murder and was sentenced to 19 years in prison. The young boy was in critical condition after the April 12 incident and spent months in intensive care before moving to rehab."Thank you to all who prayed for us and loved us during the past 4 1/2 months," his family wrote this week. "You helped to give us hope and show us the Glory of God's great love here on earth even during the darkest of days." 1302

The Ark may have been constructed to withstand 40 days and 40 nights of flooding, but Northern Kentucky’s Ark Encounter property did not fare as well as Noah’s original construction when rains hit the area.Court documents filed in District Court show that the owners of the Ark Encounter in Northern Kentucky have filed a suit against their insurance company after flood and storm damage.Crosswater Canyon Inc. alongside the Ark Encounter, have filed suit against multiple defendants who comprise the business’ insurance underwriters after their property was damaged by heavy rains.According to the suit, heavy rains caused a landslide and some structural support damage near the Ark exhibit.“Subsequent to heavy rains, a significant landslide occurred along portions of the slope, which eliminated the structural support for the roadway, caused significant damage to the road surface itself and the incorporated improvements, and rendered portions of the road unsafe and unfit for use,” reads the suit.Engineers fixed the roadway at a cost of about million. But when the Ark Encounter asked for their insurance to cover the repairs, they were disappointed.Initially, the suit alleges, the defendants cited faulty craftsmanship as the reason for the property damage and stated they were not liable. After an appeal, they conceded that only a small amount was covered by the policy.“By refusing to pay all but a very small proportion of Plaintiffs’ covered claim, the Defendants have failed to meet their Policy obligations and failed to handle Plaintiffs’ claim properly and in good faith, causing Plaintiffs to incur significant additional loss and expense,” reads the suit. The Ark Encounter is seeking damages. The vessel itself appears not to have been damaged. 1779
