President-elect Joe Biden named former General Lloyd J. Austin as his nominee for secretary of defense on Wednesday.If confirmed, Austin would become the first Black person to lead the Pentagon.At a press conference in Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday, Biden introduced Austin as a man who is "breaking down barriers and blazing a trail," adding that he is "going to do it again" if confirmed.Biden called for Austin to be confirmed "swiftly," adding that the country "needs his expertise.""It will be my sincere honor and privilege to return to the department and to lead our great service members and civilians in accomplishing the mission of ensuring our nation's security," Austin said Wednesday.He also added that he would give Biden clear and "unvarnished council" when it comes to military matters.Austin also said that he had benefitted greatly from leadership above him throughout his career, citing the influence of former Sec. of State Colin Powell, among others.In addition to needing Senate confirmation, Austin will also need a waiver, as there is seven-year waiting period after leaving the military in order to become defense secretary. RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - The young man found shot to death in a Ramona home was identified by his roommate Monday as a resident of Ukraine.San Diego County Sheriff's deputies got a 911 call reporting Sunday at 8 p.m. reporting shots fired near the home on Wood Rock Lane. They found the victim dead inside.Four people live in the home, including Ben Ledbetter. He said the victim, a 20-year-old man, worked for Ledbetter's mobile detailing business for four years. Ledbetter believes he is being targeted and said someone killed his best friend out of anger."He's 100 percent good.  His heart is strong, his will is strong.  His attitude was positive.  You couldn't kill a better person.  He was the best person you could ever know," Ledbetter said.The victim's name is being withheld until his family can be notified.Deputies shut down the area near the home until 1 p.m. Monday to search for evidence. Ledbetter told 10News that detectives took his phone, truck and clothes as part of the investigation.Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact sheriff’s Homicide Detail at 858-974-2321 or 858-565-5200.   1182

President Trump's steel tariff could cost Ford and General Motors billion a year.That's the hit each company could take if the tariff translates into a similar increase in steel prices, according to a Goldman Sachs analysis. Trump has proposed a 25% tariff on imported steel, along with a 10% tariff on aluminum. billion represents 12% of Ford's profit last year and 7% of GM's, the analysis said.The report looked at Ford and GM's 2017 production mix to make its calculation.Ford said in a statement that the tariffs "could result in an increase in domestic commodity prices — harming the competitiveness of American manufacturers." GM said it supports trade policies "that enable U.S. manufacturers to win and grow jobs in the U.S."Both automakers say they use mostly American-made steel for vehicles they make in the United States.Trump argues that the tariffs will bolster US production of steel and aluminum and combat unfair trade practices. But businesses outside the steel and aluminum industries have warned that the tariffs will lead to higher prices and hurt the economy.The American International Automobile Dealers Association, which was formed to advocate free trade, said car prices could go up "substantially."
