BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- China's disaster relief authorities Wednesday launched an emergency response plan to help victims of the rainstorms and flooding in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which has left at least 30 dead.The China National Committee for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Civil Affairs initiated a level IV emergency response plan and dispatched a working team to help guide relief work in the flood-hit zone.Heavy rains began pounding many places in Guangxi Monday and triggered landslides early Wednesday. The level depends on damages and losses as well as the number of affected people.

SHENZHEN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Preliminary investigation shows that factors including failed romance, unrestrained gambling could be the reasons behind suicide of a Foxconn Technology Group employee Friday, said police authorities in south China's Shenzhen City.Nan Gang, 21, climbed to the top of a factory building in Foxconn's industrial complex in Longhua Township and fell to his death at 4:37 a.m., said Huang Jianwei, a spokesman of the Bao'an Police Station, of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau.Nan's suspected suicide was the 10th of the kind ever happening at the Foxconn's Shenzhen plant since the beginning of the year.Police said they learned from investigations that Nan Gang's parents were divorced and Nan was the only child of the family. Nan's ex-girlfriend got married this year in February, and his new girlfriend also deserted him early this month.Nan was said to be ill tempered and fond of gambling, and was thus in deep debts before his death.According to the police, not long ago, Nan had fights with his co-workers, so he employed others to beat the co-workers, but was later blackmailed by the same group of people.Nan allegedly had said he would take revenge and even showed his intent to commit suicide before he fell off the building Friday.Police have already captured the suspects for blackmailing Nan pending further investigation.Shenzhen-based Foxconn's company profile on its website says it's the world's top electronics manufacturer with more than 600,000 employees and ranked 109 among the Fortune 500 companies in 2009. NINGBO, Zhejiang, May 16 (Xinhua) -- European customers benefit from Chinese exports and all parties should work to build a fair, level playing field in international trade, said a senior official of the European Commission in an exclusive interview with Xinhua here on Sunday."We are working to create a level playing field which gives opportunity, diversified choices and good prices to our customers," said Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, in a forum on the sidelines of the Expo 2010 in Shanghai.Kroes said international trade was a bit comparable to road traffic. "Most of us respect the rules of the game, but if one or two are not respecting the rules and the red lights, there will be an accident," she said.In the case of China-EU trade relations, "most of the parties in the games are respecting the rules, and only one percent is not taking the rules into account, and that is the subject that we called anti-dumping," she said.Recently, China-EU trade relations were marred by a dispute over imports of certain Chinese-made shoes with EU ministers voting last December to extend import duties on Chinese shoes for another 15 months.Earlier last month, the European Commission rejected a complaint by China to the World Trade Organization that EU's anti-dumping tariffs on imports of Chinese shoes breached WTO rules."Making shoes is a traditional skill of my village and we are good at making shoes. NANJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- One fisherman was confirmed dead and 16 others were still missing after two boats capsized Wednesday night at sea off Lianyungang city in east China's Jiangsu Province, local maritime bureau said Friday.Rescuers discovered the body of the fisherman Friday afternoon, and were still searching for the missing people, although their chances of survival were slim, according to Lianyungang's sea search and rescue center.Of the 17, seven are from Anhui Province and the others from Sheyang County, Jiangsu.At around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a boat registered in Jiangsu capsized because of strong gale and high tide about 200 sea miles from Lianyungang, throwing 12 fishermen on board into the water.The other boat, with 11 people on board and in the same fleet, capsized as it attempted to save them.By Thursday noon, of the 23 fishermen, six have been rescued by a nearby fishing boat.

That's a good news for Asia," Goh, also former Prime Minister of Singapore, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua in Boao, a coastal resort in south China's Hainan Province.Goh is here for the annual meeting of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), a pan-Asian platform of dialogue for key issues affecting Asia and the world, which will officially open Saturday. He was elected a member of the BFA's board of directors Thursday."The worst is behind us," he said, adding that China's recovery has a solid foundation and is on a good growth path."We've paid attention to economic fundamentals. If the economic fundamentals are right, we can let the storm pass by," Goh said. "That's what Singapore and China did."He said some damages in the global financial crisis were not very severe, "so once the storm passes, we grow again."Singapore also saw a very good growth in the first quarter of this year and "the growth exceeded out expectation," he said.Goh emphasized the importance of free trade.
