SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students and teachers from two classes at Sage Canyon School in Carmel Valley will have to return to online distance learning for two weeks after two people tested positive for COVID-19.In a statement to ABC 10News, Jenni Huh, the Del Mar Union School District Director of Student Services, said:“The District has confirmed two positive cases of COVID-19 at Sage Canyon School. All students and staff who were directly exposed have been contacted and will be quarantining for 14 days. The District has been in consultation with the San Diego County Department of Public Health.”Parent Amy Berkley said she was notified of the two positive cases on Sunday. She has two sons who attend the school and said her third-grader was in the same class as one of the people who tested positive.“They had two students in the school test positive, one was in first grade and the other in third grade,” Berkley said. “We got the notification on Sunday, and by Monday morning, all class materials were available for pickup, really easy and convenient.”While the positive cases are alarming for some parents, Berkley, who is also the PTA president, said she was pleased with how the situation was handled. Her son didn’t miss a school day as the classrooms impacted transitioned back to distance learning Monday.“We picked up a Chromebook, learning packet, homework worksheet, whiteboard all the material they’ll need; it was very well thought out.”According to the Del Mar Union School District’s safe reopening plan, if a student or teacher tests positive for COVID-19, the whole class will quarantine for 14 days, and learning will be offered remotely. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is introducing a pilot program aimed at reducing fines and plans to move to a zero-emission fleet by 2040.MTS' Board of Directors approved the pilot program recently that will give fare violators new options to pay citations and lower fines. Under the new policy starting in September:Passengers have 120 days to pay fines to MTS in-person at the Transit Store or by mail;Passengers who can't pay a fine can instead perform 3-4 hours of community service through the San Diego Food Bank, with more organizations potentially added later;Passengers can appeal a fare violation within 15 days of the citation;Only citations not paid within 120 days will proceed to criminal courts.The transportation agency says it also plans to convert 800 buses to zero-emissions, most of which will be electric, by 2040.Currently, MTS' zero-emissions pilot program includes eight electric buses, and infrastructure and hardware for 12 new charging stations. The pilot program started in October 2018 and costs about .4 million.MTS plans to purchase its last natural gas buses in 2028.The agency operates about 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines in San Diego County. 1227

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University is celebrating yet another MVP athlete on one of sports' biggest stages.Wednesday, former SDSU baseball ace Stephen Strasburg was award the 2019 World Series MVP award after the Washington Nationals won Game 7 against the Houston Astros.As special an honor as that is, the award also means SDSU has two former players that have been named MVP in their respective sports — in the same season. In June, former Aztec star and then-Toronto Raptor Kawhi Leonard was named the NBA Finals MVP. The pair of postseason MVP awards in the same season are a first for the university. 625
