According to the county, such activities that will be allowed include sunbathing and relaxing with towels and chairs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Convention Center opened its doors Wednesday as a temporary shelter for homeless individuals during the coronavirus pandemic.Starting with groups from San Diego's bridge shelters, the center will house homeless individuals to help protect them from the coronavirus and continue providing them shelter. The plan is to move in 400 people Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have arrested a 26-year-old in connection with a Logan Heights house fire that killed three of his family members last weekend.Police say Wilber Romero was arrested Friday for homicide and arson in connection with the deaths of his parents 44-year-old Jose Romero and 46-year-old Nicolasa Maya-Romero, and his sister 21-year-old Iris Romero in a house fire on Sunday. Romero's mother and sister died at the hospital in the days following the blaze while his father died in the fire. The family’s 23-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son remain in the hospital. I jumped out of bed and started screaming the house is on fire," Romero said after the blaze.One witness told 10News he could see one of the victims reaching through the bars in the windows, unable to escape the fire."The minute I stepped out of my restroom, my house on the inside felt warm, like really warm. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Wednesday that a record number of potholes have been filled in the city in 2019.An average year sees 32,000 potholes filled, but Wednesday crews filled pothole number 49,000. This year the city tripled the number of pothole repair teams and extended their hours to include nights and weekends. Matt Sinclaire lives on Georgia Street in University Heights, however, and showed 10News a doorknob flier that was left at homes on his block last week announcing that street would be repaved this week. Curiously, the no parking signs were pulled Friday, he says, and the job, he was told, was canceled. Wednesday, that announcement from the mayor was held, and two potholes were repaired directly in front of Sinclaire's home. "This whole thing pissed me off," says Sinclaire. "We waited this long and finally we were going to see our street paved... but we have a nice shiny little black square that's going to probably be good for the next year." Deputy City of San Diego Chief Operating Officer Johnnie Perkins told 10News the project was postponed, not canceled, due to the subcontractor's staffing issues. There was a miscommunication and the contractor gave neighbors bad information about a cancellation, Perkins said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect in several Mission Valley vehicle burglaries. According to police, three separate vehicles were burglarized in a parking garage on the 2200 block of Camino de la Reina on August 16 between 2 and 5 a.m. Surveillance video captured the suspect using a flashlight to look into several vehicles in the garage. The suspect then broke into the vehicles by shattering windows, taking miscellaneous items, police say. The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build last seen wearing dark colored, framed glasses, a black t-shirt with a white image on the front, blue jeans and black and white tennis shoes. He was also wearing a backpack, police say. Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police at 858-495-7957 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
