SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a woman accused of drunkenly dragging her co-worker with her car before fatally running him over in Kearny Mesa.Latisha Ingram, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving in the death of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Prosecutors say Ingram, Ta, and a group of co-workers went out for drinks on Convoy Street last June, when Ingram tried to driver herself home. Ta tried to stop her, eventually grabbing the door of her car. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two U.S. Navy service members were sentenced in San Diego federal court Friday for their roles in an insurance fraud scheme that involved making false medical claims to a military insurance program in exchange for unearned benefits.Ronald Olmsted, 48, of Mobile, Alabama, and Anthony Coco, 43, of San Diego, are among 11 defendants indicted for allegedly filing false claims to the Traumatic Servicemembers Group Life Insurance Program. Prosecutors say the scheme defrauded the program of nearly million total.Olmsted was sentenced to four months in prison, followed by four months of home detention, which will be served as part of three years of supervised release. Coco received four months of home detention to be served as part of three years of probation.The U.S. Attorney's Office said the scheme was led by co-defendant Christopher Toups, 43, of Woodstock, Georgia, a former Chief Petty Officer construction mechanic who allegedly recruited Olmsted, Coco and other service members to create and file fraudulent claims to the Traumatic Servicemembers Group Life Insurance Program -- or TSGLI -- which compensates service members who suffer serious, debilitating injuries while on active duty.Prosecutors say Toups ran the scheme with assistance from U.S. Navy Commander Dr. Michael Villarroel, the medical doctor for the unit where Toups worked, and Kelene Meyer, a former Navy nurse who Toups was married to during the time of the offenses.Olmsted claimed that he was injured in a 2011 rappelling accident and fell down a flight of stairs in 2012, which left him unable to care for himself or do basic tasks. He received 5,000 from the TSGLI, and prosecutors say he sent ,000 to Toups.Coco alleged he reported on medical forms that he broke both ankles in a fall that left him confined to a wheelchair. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 36,000 pounds of cocaine seized in the Eastern Pacific Ocean will be offloaded Tuesday from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf onto San Diego’s B Street Pier.The contraband is from 17 busts on smuggling vessels off the coasts of Central and South America, officials said. Five Coast Guard cutters were involved in the seizures between early February and early March.Rear Adm. Todd Sokalzuk, the 11th Coast Guard District commander who oversees the law enforcement phase of counter-smuggling operations in the Eastern Pacific region, said the Coast Guard is seizing record amounts of cocaine for the third year in a row.“I’m proud of the hard work and dedication of my crew, as well as the crews of Coast Guard Cutters Bear, Diligence, Harriet Lane, Venturous and the joint and interagency personnel who work hand-in-hand to secure our nation,” said Capt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The two most popular baby names in San Diego County in 2018 were Liam and Emma, the county Health and Human Services Agency announced today.Emma led all other names with 264. Among girl names, Olivia was second with 235, according to the county, with Mia, Isabella, Camila, Sophia, Sofia, Victoria, Mila and Charlotte rounding out the top 10.Liam led all boys' names with 242, followed by Noah at 202. Other top 10 boy names were Sebastian, Mateo, Benjamin, Daniel, Ethan, Oliver, Alexander and Logan.It was the third consecutive year in which Emma led all girls' names and the second consecutive year that Liam led among boys. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A female driver struck a home in Point Loma Wednesday morning.The BMW went into the house at 3145 Nimitz Blvd. at Evergreen Street.The driver didn't see the turn and went through a guard rail, into the house, police said.A man and woman were sleeping inside.The man and the female driver suffered minor injuries.Police said the crash was not alcohol or drug-related. 393
