Seventeen black women made history Tuesday night in winning judicial seats in Harris County, Texas.The 17 Democratic candidates were elected under a campaign they called "Black Girl Magic Texas," hoping to be the largest number of black women elected judges in Harris County.Harris County, which includes Houston, is the largest county in the state.Some of the women celebrated their success on social media."This election is still sinking in," LaShawn Williams, judge-elect for one of the county civil courts at law, wrote on Facebook. Smoke from the raging wildfires on the West Coast has reached the eastern seaboard.Images from a NASA satellite show clouds of smoke stretching from coast to coast.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says the smoke made its way east in two different directions. One trail of smoke crossed the Great Lakes region and reached upstate New York. Another path of smoke wound its way through Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and into the Mid-Atlantic.Some of the smoke even drifted up into Canada.The wildfires have led to hazardous air quality along parts of the West Coast, but air quality in most of the eastern U.S. is not affected. 657

Someone broke into Queen Califia’s Magical Circle located in Kit Carson Park.The sculpture garden features many works of art, including a mosaic maze, totem sculptures, a fountain, and a wall in the form of playful serpents.  The vandals cut the lock to the gate leading into the property. Then they smashed more than 20 custom shaped mirrors in the mosaic maze.  They also damaged two of the totems. The damage was discovered this week.Lech Juretko, of Art Mosaic Inc, helped the artist, Niki de Saint Phalle, create the sculpture garden for the community. He is also the one charged with repairing it.“I cannot really explain it,” Juretko said about the damage, “It’s sad. It’s never happened.”Juretko estimates it will cost ,000 to ,000 to repair the damage. He did not have a timeline for the repairs.The City of Escondido released the following statement to 10News.“The City plans to keep Queen Califia’s Magical Circle open during the regularly scheduled hours, weather permitting. Signage will be posted, and areas that could possibly be sharp from the glass and tile breakage will be blocked off. In addition, we always have a volunteer docent on site at all times while the sculpture garden is open to the public. Someone's prank WiFi name caused havoc in Saginaw Township, Michigan on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of a Planet Fitness Gym for three hours, the Saginaw News reported. According to the Saginaw News, a Planet Fitness customer was searching for available WiFi options when they found the WiFi name "remote detonator" among the connections. The customer brought the name to the attention of the gym's manager who notified police. A bomb-sniffing dog was used, and no explosives were found. A Planet Fitness spokesperson told the Saginaw News that the manager had followed proper procedure. "If there's any suspicion of any device or anything in the club that would require police attention, the protocol is they close the facility and contact police," McCall Gosselin told the newspaper. "Safety is always first."Saginaw Township Police Chief Donald Pussehl told the Saginaw News that no crime was committed, and that the WiFi name is considered "protected speech." "There was no crime or threat.
