SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) -- A city of Solana Beach plan to redevelop part of the City Hall parking lot into affordable housing didn't generate any interest from developers. The city says not one builder responded to the request for proposals it issued last spring to build 19 affordable units on the City Hall property, which is across the street from its exclusive coastal bluffs. Solana Beach Mayor David Zito said it's hard to pinpoint why no developers were interested since none applied. "Projects that include affordable units can be more challenging to deal with due to potential local resistance," Zito said. "This provides an initial barrier that simply needs to be overcome. Developers would typically want the possibility of a greater return in order to take on additional risk and these types of projects typically provide less return."Zito added another issue was the requirement to keep the public parking at City Hall, which raised costs. Solana Beach, with a rent that averages more than ,000 a month, currently has zero affordable housing units. The coastal city approved a 10-unit complex down the block from City Hall in 2014. It survived a lengthy legal challenge but still has not broken ground largely due to funding. That has left many workers who have jobs in the city's restaurants, hotels and quaint shops to commute from far away, or to live in groups nearby."In my complex there's like four people living in a condo," said Mary Lou Bottino, who has lived in Solana Beach for more than 20 years. Solana Beach is now turning its attention to its 117-space Distillery Parking lot across from Fletcher Cove. The City Council could vote Wednesday to send out a new request for proposals to turn that lot into a 20-unit complex. South Floridians breathed a collective sigh of relief on Sunday as Tropical Storm Isaias made a minimal impact as it traveled up the state's east coast.Once a hurricane, Isaias weakened into a tropical storm as it made landfall over the Bahamas on Saturday. And while the storm brought heavy rain, wind and storm surge to the Sunshine State, it never officially made landfall.Scripps station WPTV in Palm Beach reports that Tropical Storm Isaias caused some power outages in the area and caused rip tides off area beaches, but spared the region of major damage.Now, Isaias has its sights set on the Carolinas. In a 5 a.m. update on Monday, the National Hurricane Center said that the storm is expected to regain hurricane strength before reaching the Carolina coast early Tuesday morning. The agency said coastal areas near the North and South Carolina border could see "life-threatening storm surge."Isaias is also expected to bring flash-flood-causing rains to the Carolinas and the mid-Atlantic through the early part of this week. SOMER, Wis. -- A couple from the Village of Somers, Wisconsin was forced to leave their home because of erosion.The house is teetering on the ground above Lake Michigan.Tom and Marge Lindgren were sitting in their kitchen last weekend when they heard a loud crash. "I heard a crash and jumped up. I looked out and the porch went crashing down.I ran up packed a bag and my wife packed a bag and we grabbed the dog and got outta here," said Lindgren. Shoreline erosion along Lake Michigan has been a problem for decades.Some homeowners invest in heavy rock barricades to fight the high waves.Lindgren received a 0,000 estimate to stabilize the bluff, but it's a price he can’t pay."I lived here as a kid.
