GLEN BURNIE, Maryland — Two kennel owners are facing dozens of charges after several dogs were found neglected in their care, and one of them had to be put down. On March 20, Anne Arundel County Police say they got a complaint about Olympian Kennels, a company that was supposed to be training and caring for dogs. Some of the dog owners were concerned after they could not reach the kennel's owners, Rebecca Wolfe or Cameron Whitaker-Nelson. In addition to not being able to reach the owners, there were concerns raised after Wolfe posted a message on social media saying Animal Control had taken all of the animals in her care and custody, but Animal Control had not done that.After an investigation, police found six dogs in the basement of Wolfe and Whitaker-Nelson's home on Shade Drive in Glen Burnie. Two of the dogs were severely weak and sick. The basement where the dogs were kept smelled of ammonia and fecal matter. One of the two sick dogs was having trouble breathing and had to be put down shortly after going to the animal hospital. The five other dogs were returned to their owners following a checkup from a veterinarian. The adventures of Maizie Rai with her human best friend Fiona Dawson are well documented on social media, their story is now intertwined with this house.“I had to sit there and watch them take dogs out of their house but not my dog," said Dawson."  I don’t know where she is I don’t know where her body is I don’t know anything.”Dawson's story lines up with numerous other's who have reached out about neglect at this home.The couple used to work for Jessica breeding at Premier Dog Training and Boarding.Wolfe worked the front desk and Whitaker-Nelson was a trainer, Breeding said she trusted them initially.Putting dogs into trainers homes to acclimate is how most dogs complete their training.Breeding got suspicious when a service dog in training named King died in the couples care and the couple refused to get a necropsy done. "After two weeks we were asking her for the results she wouldn't’t give them to us,” said Breeding.  “I ended up calling the vet and they said no necropsy was ever done. It was a battle to try to get the body from the vet for me to actually get a necropsy done. We found out that the dog had passed because of negligent circumstances.”Around that time Dawson started to get worried about Maizie Rai.ABC2 got emails that show an agreement with the couple Dawson met through Premier Dog Training.Dawson had to travel a lot for much for work, so the couple would take in Maizie Dawson would pay for her food, medicine, and give the couple 0 a month.Wolfe and Nelson would take care of Maizie long term and Dawson could set up visits.“I picked her up and she seemed to be doing great,” said Dawson. “She was socializing with other dogs which was quite unusual for her because she had such anxiety when she was with me. I really kind of felt like she was having a better life with them then she was with me."That was the last time Watson saw Maizie Rai.She said for two months the pictures were replaced by excuses and then nothing.“Throughout all this time never in my mind did I think that she wouldn’t be alive,” Dawson said. Dawson and Breeding went to the house to figure out what was going on, no one answered.Anne Arundel County Police and Animal Control joined them,that's when the couple finally came out of the house. “I say "Hi Cameron here for Maizie Rai". In front of the police and animal control.  Cameron looks me in the eye and says "Fiona we texted you a couple of months ago not sure if you got it or not but Maizie Rai died". I just lost it, and screamed and cried almost hyperventilated.  We then sat back and watched animal control take dogs out of their house.”Dawson has no idea where Maizie Rai's body is.This is also not the first time there have been complaints against the two kennel owners. There have been two prior complaints made in May of 2017 and January of 2018. The investigation is still ongoing and can result in additional charges. Anyone with information is asked to contact Animal Control Officer Wolfe at 410-222-3929 (no relation to suspect Rebecca Wolfe).We were able to reach Whitaker-Nelson on the phone, he said he had no comment and that he didn't know what was going on.Wolfe and Whitaker-Nelson have each been charged with 40 counts of animal cruelty. 4506

But back in 2017, Chuck had a left lung transplant after dealing with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis for four years, leaving him immunocompromised."One of the things that, being at an advanced age is the desire when you have children and grandchildren is to have the ability to see them. So, being locked down since March, it’s been really difficult not being able to have the personal interaction with our children and grandchildren," said Chuck.Chuck and Robyn live in Tampa with one of their daughters, the other three live in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Colorado."FaceTime and technology are great but it’s no substitute for seeing people individually. So, after thinking about it for quite some time and how we could do it knowing that flying for both of us is out of the question, we decided to rent an RV," said Chuck.They liked it so much, they bought their own. They believe it's the only way to safely see family for at least the next few years. Not only do they not deal with other people at airports or on planes, but they’re staying in a much safer environment."So far, we’ve really kind of enjoyed it, it’s been fun," said Robyn.They say they’ve seen parts of the country they never knew were so breathtaking that they've always just flown over."I didn’t know it was so beautiful. Those states are just absolutely gorgeous," said Robyn.So far, they’ve taken a trip out west to visit family in Colorado. They just got back from a 12-day trip up north stopping to see two of their daughters and their families, even celebrating Robyn's birthday."It’s not without its problems, though. There’s a lot that goes into it in terms of planning, how much medication you take, how much food you take, how many miles can you effectively drive in one day, and where we’re going to stop," said Chuck.However, it’s all worth it when you get to spend time with your family."We miss our family. HAMPTON ROADS, Va. – Sitting in a classroom with a teacher and friends is what Ryan, a high school senior in North Carolina, misses.“He has mentioned how much he misses just being in the school,” said Ryan’s mom Dr. Jonna Bobzien.Ryan started virtual learning this week.This past school year, Bobzien said Ryan struggled with online learning.“It was very different,” she said. “It was asynchronous online, just a lot of watching pre-recorded information and he really struggled with that, because there is no sense of interaction, nothing really to hold the attention of the learner.”This academic year, however, he seems to be thriving.“This year, I find him, even though it’s only the first week, more excited,” said Bobzien. “His classes allow them to use avatars, so he can sit there and rock when he’s concentrating.”Ryan has autism and ADHD, so focusing his attention and sitting still for long periods can be difficult.Ryan is not unique. Many children, who are learning virtually are facing the same mundane challenge.“Just sitting in front of a computer listening to your teacher talk or watching a video can be a little less entertaining as far as value or attention-getting,” Bobzien said.Dr. Bobzien is not only a mom, but she also chairs the Communication Disorders and Special Ed Department at ODU. Additionally, she is an associate professor in special ed at the university.According to Bobzien, establishing a workspace for your child to call their own can make a difference.“Helping them to feel like they’re in that real classroom setting,” she said. “In a classroom, teachers are skilled at minimizing distraction…. When we’re at home, it can be more difficult.”Wearing headphones can help students block out distractions.Bobzien said it’s key to establish a routine and structure with some flexibility as parents navigate the role of mom and dad and teacher. She said it’s also essential to redirect a child’s attention rather than reprimand him.“Students with attention difficulties, also students with autism, they crave predictability and routine,” she said. “When you’re a virtual learner you have the opportunity to engage in some of those maybe unusual behaviors like rocking or spinning a pen that help you to focus without that sense of being pointed out.”Though Ryan’s senior year isn’t what he was expecting, there may be an upside to learning online for him and others who shy away from public attention.“With parents, may actually see, in some cases, improvements,” Bobzien said. “Sometimes, students who do have difficulties don’t like being under the spotlight as much.”Antoinette DelBel first reported this story at WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia. 2685
