SAN CARLOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A grandmother and several children were forced to run out of a San Carlos home that burst into flames Saturday night. The fire broke out on Park Ridge Boulevard in San Carlos around 10 p.m. Saturday. Fire crews were able to stop the flames from spreading to a nearby canyon. Neighbors say they heard what sounded like explosions before they ran out and saw the home on fire. A woman was home watching her grandchildren when the house caught fire. All those inside were able to make it out safely. San Diego Fire-Rescue says it was initially challenging to battle the flames because the closest hydrants are located hundreds of feet away. “I went across the street and pounded on the door and the window to make sure that nobody was in there. Don’t think they were. There was just a lot of explosions and tires I guess blowing up. It was just In full flames when it happened,” one neighbor said. SAN DIEGO - San Diego Democrats are now celebrating their party officially taking back the House of Representatives.Now, they want action on a bill they say will take corruption out of U.S. politics."Having the Democrats take back the house is the best birthday present anybody could have," said Ruth Kirk, who lives in Hillcrest. On Thursday, Kirk celebrated with about three dozen of her like minded friends - in front of Democratic Congresswoman Susan Davis's office in North Park. The demonstrators, part of a group called Indivisible, worked to flip house seats from red to blue in the 2018 election. With that goal accomplished, Indivisible is turning its attention to reforming how politics operate in this country. Indivisible held rallies outside Davis's office as well as Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter's Temecula headquarters. They are pushing for H.R. 1 - a bill that would reform campaign finance laws, ethics, and voting rights."We want to get the money and the gerrymandering out of politics and the ethics back into government," Kirk said. Davis says the bill is still being drafted and hopes to have it passed by Jan. 21. That's the eighth anniversary of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, which freed corporations and unions to spend all they want on political ads. It appears, however, to have a minuscule chance in the Republican-controlled senate. Majority leader Mitch McConnell last month called it a blatantly unconstitutional effort to micromanage our elections. Political analyst Ruben Barrales, who worked in the George W. Bush administration, says there are some aspects of the bill that could pass - such as more daylight for campaign contributions. SAN DIEGO — (KGTV) -- The Del Mar Fairgrounds is weighing its legal options after the KAABOO Music announced that it would move to Petco Park in 2020, the venue's CEO told 10News.Fairgrounds chief executive Tim Fennell declined a formal interview, but pointed to language in the Fairgrounds' contract with KAABOO that blocks the festival from holding a similar event within a 75-mile radius the year it cancels the contract. SAN DEIGO (KGTV) — At least two sailors who helped fight the fire aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard at Naval Base San Diego have tested positive for COVID-19.The two sailors tested positive after exhibiting symptoms, according to U.S. Navy spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Nicole Schwegman. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 44-year-old man suffered a serious cut on his hand early Monday morning when he was attacked by a woman with a knife after parking his car in the City Heights area, police said.It happened shortly before 12:10 a.m. in the 4900 block of University Avenue, east of Euclid Avenue, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 44-year-old man had just parked his car on University Avenue when a woman in her 20s walked up to him and said he owed her some money, Buttle said.The woman then tried to stab him in the neck, but he raised his hand and she cut the webbing of his hand, slashing an artery, the officer said.The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injury, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Buttle said.The suspect was last seen walking southbound on 50th Street from University Avenue.
