MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — Hurricane Eta is quickly gaining force as it heads for Central America, threatening massive flooding and landslides across a vulnerable region. The National Hurricane Center says the storm has 150 mph sustained winds, as of Monday evening, and is gaining speed as it approaches land. The hurricane was just 6 mph shy of category 5 strength. Eta is expected to hit along the Nicaragua-Honduras border, with landfall coming sometime on Tuesday. The rainfall is expected to be heavy, it could be three feet in some places. The storm surge is predicted to get as high as 12-18 feet above normal tide. "Through Friday evening, heavy rainfall from Eta will likely lead to catastrophic, life-threatening flash flooding and river flooding across portions of Central America, along with landslides in areas of higher terrain. Flash and river flooding is also possible across Jamaica, southeast Mexico, El Salvador, southern Haiti and the Cayman Islands," according to the advisory from the NHC. 1021

Melania Trump, nearly 16 months into her tenure as first lady, has at last revealed her formal platform: "Be Best." The comprehensive program will focus on three main points -- well-being, fighting opioid abuse and positivity on social media -- and is the culmination of the past several months of Trump's various public events, all of which centered around helping children."As a mother and as first lady, it concerns me that in today's fast-paced and ever-connected world, children can be less prepared to express or manage their emotions and oftentimes turn to forms of destructive or addictive behavior such as bullying, drug addiction or even suicide," she said during a Rose Garden event Monday."I feel strongly that as adults we can and should be best at educating our children about the importance of a healthy and balanced life," the first lady said.Trump has in recent weeks experienced a significant surge in support, a new CNN poll revealed Monday, including among women and Democrats. In a poll conducted by SSRS last week, 57% say they have a favorable impression of Trump, up from 47% in January. This is the biggest number Melania Trump has experienced in any CNN polling, and higher than any favorability rating earned by President Donald Trump in CNN polling history going back to 1999.Twenty-seven percent of respondents have an unfavorable view of the first lady. The platform pillars she revealed during her 10-minute speech in the White House Rose Garden include well-being, encompassing healthy living as well as emotional health; opioid abuse, including bringing awareness to neonatal abstinence syndrome and emphasizing the importance of healthy pregnancy; and social media, where Trump plans to encourage kids to use the internet in positive ways, tamping down cyberbullying and negativity. The last of these issues has been a lightning rod of controversy for Trump, whose husband is perhaps one of the most public, and prolific, offenders of name-calling on Twitter.Sitting in the front row, feet from his wife at the podium, the President listened as the first lady cautioned against using the very behavior Trump displays, sometimes on a daily basis."As we all know, social media can both positively and negatively affect our children. But too often, it is used in negative ways," said Trump. "When children learn positive online behaviors early on, social media can be used in productive ways and can affect positive change."Asked about the President's online behavior earlier Monday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders rejected the suggestion that he has fostered a climate where cyberbullying exists."I think the idea that you're trying to blame cyberbullying on the President -- when it comes to kids this is something that has been problematic and something that we have seen over the last decade," Sanders said.At the end of the event, Trump did not take questions, and her spokeswoman indicated the first lady will not be doing any interviews. Trump's only one-on-one televised interview as first lady was with CNN last year in China. 3102

Many Thanksgiving traditions will likely change this year for many Americans, as health officials warn people against having large gatherings.Food and grocery experts preparing for the holiday are also noticing some new trends when it comes to that traditional Thanksgiving meal."We are definitely seeing turkeys selling in smaller portions, so people aren’t buying whole birds. We anticipate Americans are going to be buying smaller parts like wings, legs, cutlets. We definitely saw that going up in Canada, so we expect the same here," said Instacart trends expert Laurentia Romaniuk.Romaniuk says they first looked at buying trends for the Canadian Thanksgiving, which occurs in October. They found people aren't just buying smaller turkeys, but also choosing to make healthier sides."We're seeing customers go after a lot of healthier alternatives. This includes things like chickpea-based pasta, instead of regular pasta. So, a classic Thanksgiving dinner might include mac and cheese, and this year, we’re seeing Banza, which is a brand that makes chickpea-based pasta, go up by 333 percent, and actually, we’re ready starting to see that take off," said Romaniuk. And some people may not even want to cook their Thanksgiving meal at all, especially if they're having a smaller celebration than normal.Milton's Cuisine and Cocktails in Georgia is prepping more than 400 turkeys this year for their gourmet Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings to go."We do an apple brined and smoked turkey; they are 12 to 14 pounds. We say it feeds six to eight people. It comes with sage-corn sweet bread which is our version of dressing and then a Madeira turkey gravy," explained Derek Dollar, Milton's executive chef and managing partner. This year, Dollar says, getting a Thanksgiving meal to-go is a good way to support a restaurant this year. He believes more restaurants will continue to close their doors for good because of the pandemic, and any support is appreciated."People are definitely jumping on board. Luckily, we were ahead of the curve and we’ve already done it," said Dollar. However you decide to eat your Thanksgiving meal this year, Dollar advises to not wait until the week of Thanksgiving to make your decision."We pre-ordered just to get it allocated, and big corporations aren’t ordering extra like they normally do. My people are telling me that there’s larger birds left, which is what you’re saying is not the trend, and I think if people wait too long like the week of Thanksgiving, they might not be able to get one at the grocery store or anywhere else, unfortunately," said Dollar. 2616

His passion for his work and his enthusiasm for life earns him great respect and admiration from all of our players and the entire organization. Our hearts are broken for his family and all of the individuals whose lives he touched and made better."On Tuesday, the team had canceled practice after Paul experienced a medical emergency at its facility and was rushed to the hospital, the Associated Press reported."We extend our love, strength, and support to Markus' family during this most challenging of times and ask that their privacy be respected moving forward," head coach Mike McCarthy said in a statement. He had innate toughness in a job that requires that quality, and he was admired throughout the NFL by his peers and the players he coached. It was a privilege to work with him as a coach and laugh with him as a friend. Markus did everything the right way."McCarthy named Paul the team's strength coach in January.Drafted out of Syracuse, the former safety played from 1989 to 1993 for the Chicago Bears and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the AP.According to ESPN, Paul won five Super Bowl championships as a coach, three with the New England Patriots and two with the New York Giants.Dallas is still scheduled to play Washington on Thanksgiving. 2077
