OAKLAND, Calif. — Twitter says it will label or remove misleading claims that try to undermine public confidence in elections.This includes attempts at undermining people's faith in the process itself, such as false claims about election rigging or ballot tampering.It also includes misleading claims about the results of elections, like claiming victory before results have been certified, or inciting unlawful conduct to prevent a peaceful transfer of power or orderly succession.“The goal is to further protect against content that could suppress the vote and help stop the spread of harmful misinformation that could compromise the integrity of an election or other civic process,” wrote Twitter in a blog post.The policy goes into effect Sept. 17. It applies globally, not just to the U.S., which is holding presidential elections Nov. 3.Many people are expected to vote by mail, which is likely to delay election results.Twitter says its policy of labeling, rather than removing violating tweets from world leaders, will still apply.“We will not permit our service to be abused around civic processes, most importantly elections,” Twitter wrote. “Any attempt to do so — both foreign and domestic — will be met with strict enforcement of our rules, which are applied equally and judiciously for everyone.” 1318

Oceanside (KGTV): The Main Attraction is getting ready for its last dance.The popular topless bar, the last of its kind in the North County, was recently sold. Developers now plan to turn the land it sits on, as well as more than 5 acres around it, into a mixed-use housing project.Papers filed with the City of Oceanside Planning Department show plans for a five story, 308-unit complex that also includes 4,000 square feet of street front retail stores and a six-story parking garage. Wood Partners and Lightfoot Planning Group filed the plans.The land sits just west of the 5 freeway near the intersection of North Coast Highway and Costa Pacifica Way. A vacant lot covers most of the 5.3-acre parcel. A few abandoned warehouses and the strip club stand as the only buildings around."It is exciting," says Leslee Gaul, the CEO of Visit Oceanside. "It’s part of the renaissance in our community, and I think it’s a great location."Gaul's office is right across the street from the topless bar. She works in the California Welcome Center. The Main Attraction is the first thing most visitors see when they get off the freeway in Oceanside.Gaul says the club has been a good neighbor, but she's ready for the change."It’s been a low key, positive relationship for many years," she says. "But as things change and our community changes, this is part of that."Homes within the complex will range from a 550 square foot studio to 1,550 square foot townhomes. The majority of the 308 units will be either one or two-bedroom apartments. Meanwhile, the plans from the developer say residents will have modern amenities, including "an indoor‐outdoor social lounge with pool access and catering kitchen, a fitness center, an artist center, bicycle room, and surfboard storage." (KGTV) — A body was discovered in a small North County lake while vector control workers sprayed for bugs Thursday.A helicopter pilot was dropping larvicide over the area behind the Vons shopping center at State Route 76 and Frazee Road about 1 p.m. and spotted the body floating on the surface, according to police.The lagoon was inaccessible by foot, said police. Officers deployed a drone to confirm there was a body on the scene.Oceanside Fire Department Lifeguards were called to retrieve the person's remains. Investigators believe he or she may have been in the water for at least two weeks.Oceanside Police responded to the scene and investigated the discovery. The incident is the second discovery of a body in Oceanside Thursday.
