SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While enjoying a moment at the park over the weekend, a Carlsbad family was on the receiving end of an act of kindness from a stranger. The family says they are now hoping to find that person to say thank you.After months of staying at home, the family was excited to spend a day at Buccaneer Park in Oceanside. Eleven-year-old Jacobi and 12-year-old Jordan couldn’t wait to get outside.“They’re too old of the playground area, the swings and things like that,” says mom Tamara Coronado. “They look forward to the open space, the grass area, and definitely the basketball courts.”But Coronado says park officials had not yet reinstalled the basketball hoops, something the boys were looking forward to. The kids were left to make up their own games. It caught the attention of one man.“Forty-five minutes to an hour later, he came back… with a crafting reef from Dollar Tree and a very small basketball that would fit inside.”The man used a power drill to attach the wreath to a tree to form a makeshift hoop so that the boys could play basketball.“All that he asked was that we leave the wreath and the ball in place so that after we left, other families could use it,” says Coronado. “But the fact that he went out of his way like he did was, I just couldn’t believe it.”The mom says even though a lot is going on around the country, she wants others to know there are still kind people in the world. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- We've all seen the nasal swabs being pushed far up noses to test for coronavirus. And if you've had it done, you know it's uncomfortable. But more tests are being developed where all you have to do is spit into a tube."You basically open up your mouth, we collect a tiny bit of saliva and you're done. Your side is done," said Dr. Henry Ji, President and CEO of San Diego based Sorrento Theraputics.According to Ji, the biopharma company is on track to start producing a rapid saliva test developed by researchers at Columbia University.It's being called "COVI TRACE" and it can be used almost anywhere.It gives results in about 30 minutes, with the liquid color changing from red to yellow if it's positive for Covid-19.Preliminary results indicate the test has high accuracy rates.Sorrento also says "COVI TRACE" is highly sensitive, meaning it can detect the presence of Covid-19 very early on.Sorrento executives say they plan to submit the test for FDA approval within the next few weeks."While the FDA is reviewing and leading up to review we are gearing up to manufacture hundreds of thousands and millions of tests; eventually anticipating about a hundred million tests a month," said Sorrento's Henry Brunswick.As for the cost, Ji says they're trying to keep it widely affordable, at around .At this point there's no estimate for when the rapid saliva "COVI TRACE" test could be approved by the FDA, but Sorrento is submitting an emergency use request in hopes of speeding up the process. 1528

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With COVID-19 cases spiking in parts of the country, some of the largest testing providers are struggling to keep up with the demand, complicating efforts to isolate infected individuals and trace their contacts.Quest Diagnostics announced Monday its turnaround time for most test results had expanded to four to six days, back to where it was in the beginning of April. Quest said its turnaround time for priority tests -- those for hospitalized patients and symptomatic healthcare workers -- remained at one day.San Diego County operates 33 free testing sites for COVID-19, but ABC 10News found turnaround times can vary.Have you waited more than 7 days for COVID-19 test results? The county has also added shifts at the lab, going with up to three shifts a day to process specimens.As the number of cases grows in San Diego County, there could be future delays in turnaround time at the county lab, “but likely not beyond where it is today,” said spokesman Tim McClain.“Everyone should be practicing social distancing, good handwashing and wearing of a face covering,” he said via email. “Individuals who felt symptomatic or otherwise had a strong belief they had the virus should isolate themselves and follow other public health precautions until the results come back.” 3362
