SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Grinch is back yet again to steal Christmas from San Diego.The Old Globe Theatre's production of "Dr. Suess's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" returns to San Diego for its run from Nov. 4 to Dec. 24. Back for its 20th year, the holiday classic brings Whoville to the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in Balboa Park. The Grinch, played by Edward Watts, will embark on a quest to stop Christmas from gracing the town of Whoville, featuring the songs "This Time of Year," "Santa for a Day," and "Fah Who Doraze."RELATED: Holiday family fun around San Diego this seasonBut the action isn't just on the stage.On Sunday, Nov. 12, the show will kick off with the 12th annual tree lighting outside the Globe with a special performance by the cast for free. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The census count impacts everyone living in the United States, from determining how much federal money cities and counties receive to how many representatives states get in Congress. Everyone living in the country regardless of age, race, and citizenship status is asked to fill the survey out. But San Diego and Imperial Counties are notoriously difficult to get an accurate count, the second most challenging region in the entire country. For the 2020 census, over 100 community organizations and civic groups in San Diego are working together to reach "hard to count" populations.“Some of the ethnic groups are the ones that are hard to count, such as the African Americans, the Hispanic, Asian Pacific Islanders, as well as immigrant and refugee populations are really hard to count," said Nancy Sasaki, President & CEO of United Way of San Diego County.United Way of San Diego County is leading the Count Me 2020 campaign. Sasaki went on to say veterans, homeless people, and children are often left out too. The county was awarded two major contracts, totaling .22 million, to coordinate Census 2020 outreach for hard to count populations in San Diego and Imperial Counties.The Supreme Court will rule whether the controversial citizenship question will be added to the census, a decision is expected by June. 1349

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego announced Tuesday that the transformed Super 8 motel in Egger Highlands will be used to temporarily serve families and children experiencing homelessness amid COVID-19. The city's purchase and transformation of the motel was approved by the City Council in 2017. The transitional housing units will eventually be used to serve those enrolled in the San Diego Misdemeanants At-Risk Track. The program was created by the City Attorney's Office for chronic misdemeanor offenders with acute drug addiction, according to the city. For now, the recently-renovated motel will provide temporary housing for children and families struggling with homelessness. “We’re looking at every opportunity to help those families and children experiencing homelessness during these trying times,” Mayor Faulconer said. “The rehabilitation of this motel couldn’t come at a better time as the need for temporary shelter has never been greater. I want to thank City Attorney Elliott for partnering with me to provide safety and relief to so many families as we fight to stop the spread of this deadly virus.”The city started moving families to motel rooms in March to allow for proper physical distancing. “During this challenging time, it's more important than ever to ensure our most vulnerable community members are protected,” City Attorney Elliott said. “I am gratified to be able to transition our S.M.A.R.T. on Palm facility to provide temporary emergency housing for families in this time of dire need.”The facility has 42 transitional housing rooms, 39 double-bed units, and three units that meet the Americans with Disability Act standards, the city says. 1693

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The executive director of a senior living home defrauded residents of nearly 0,000, police say. Jorge Gonzales was arrested on November 12 for financial elder abuse by a caregiver, identity theft, grand theft and forgery. According to police, Gonzales is the executive director of the Golden Living Senior Home on the 3200 block of Duke Street. Police say Gonzales defrauded three residents of approximately 9,000.
