FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) -- A tortoise is recovering after falling 10 feet from a wall Sunday, cracking its shell. The tortoise was found by a good Samaritan after falling from a 10-foot wall while being chased by a dog, according to the County News Center. The 70-pound tortoise was taken to a veterinary hospital where animal services were called.Officials say that’s when they learned it would cost several thousand dollars to fix the 35 to 40-year-old tortoise.“We have a donor-driven Spirit fund that we can use for severe medical cases such as this one,” said County Animal Services Director Dan DeSousa. “This tortoise will get the extensive, aggressive care and long-term observation that he needs to regain his health and hopefully live to a great, old age.”The tortoise underwent surgery Tuesday, where veterinarians put screws into the shell then used ties on the screws to hold the broken pieces together.Veterinarians then used the same paste material that dentures are made from to seal the cracks. For more information or to donate to the Spirit fund, click here. 1098

Federal investigators are looking into whether a huge wildfire near Los Angeles was sparked by Southern California Edison utility equipment. Edison says it has turned over a section of an overhead conductor from the utility’s facility near a dam in the area where the Bobcat Fire started Sept. 6. The initial report of fire was near Cogswell Dam at 12:21 p.m. Sept. 6. The utility says five minutes earlier, at 12:16 p.m., a circuit at the substation experienced a possible disturbance or event. Edison says cameras captured smoke developing in the area around 12:10 p.m., prior to the activity on Edison’s circuit. As of Thursday, there are still 26 ongoing wildfires in California being fought by 18,200 firefighters. In the last six weeks, fires have consumed 6,700 buildings and have killed 26 people. Crews say that cooler weather in the state is helping firefighters make progress on the wildfires, which have consumed 3.6 million acres of land in the state since the start of the year. 999

Facebook has removed dozens of fake accounts, pages and Instagram accounts “linked to Roger Stone and his associates” that they believe were involved in spreading disinformation to American users of the social media channels.“The people behind this activity used fake accounts — some of which had already been detected and disabled by our automated systems — to pose as residents of Florida, post and comment on their own content to make it appear more popular than it is, evade enforcement, and manage Pages,” Facebook said in a posted statement.Facebook says they removed 54 Facebook accounts, 50 pages and 4 Instagram accounts connected to this coordinated network. The accounts and pages were most active between 2015 and 2017. According to Facebook, the majority of these accounts have been unused since then."In each case, the people behind this activity coordinated with one another and used fake accounts as a central part of their operations to mislead people about who they are and what they are doing, and that was the basis for our action," Facebook said. The fake accounts posted content about Florida politics, the 2016 political candidates, hacked materials released by Wikileaks ahead of the 2016 election, in addition to the Roger Stone trial, and other information about Roger Stone and his pages, websites, books and appearances.Stone, an ally of President Trump, was convicted on seven counts including lying to congress and obstructing the House investigation into any coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia ahead of the 2016 election.Earlier this year, the FBI unsealed records that showed Stone bought hundreds of fake Facebook pages in 2016. The records said, according to Business Insider, Stone used the fake accounts to share news articles to damage political rivals and to defend himself against charges. In Wednesday’s statement from Facebook, they said these records helped their investigation. “We identified the full scope of this network following the recent public release of search warrants pertaining to the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.”The removed accounts linked to Roger Stone and associates had about 260,000 unique followers on Facebook and 61,5000 unique followers on Instagram.Facebook also announced three other networks operating dozens of other pages who were identified as “violating our policy against foreign interference and coordinated inauthentic behavior.” The other networks were operating in Ukraine, Canada, Ecuador and Brazil.Below are posts from the now-removed pages: 2564

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - An Escondido CrossFit class got quite a nasty surprise when they went outside for their workout, Wednesday. They found human feces. The owner of Boombox CrossFit North, Brittani Ramirez, said she was in shock when she heard over the phone, "I didn't believe her; I was like no, we get dogs back there all the time, like I'm sure it was just a stray dog."When she looked back at their security footage, it showed a man walking up to the back door, wiggling the handle, then walking to the corner of the lot, pulling down his pants and defecating. The footage showed it was 3:30 p.m., just an hour before class started."One of my amazing members Lacey stepped in, she gloved up, got some trash bags, she got some bleach, and Katie, one of my coaches, the two of them handled the business," Ramirez said.A health concern for everyone involved. Ramirez said this isn't her first unpleasant experience with homeless, she said they've been stopping in over the three years Boombox has been open."They walk in and they see it's obviously very different in here but still a lot of them are mentally ill or on drugs so they don't quite understand," Ramirez said before she bought the building, it was a redevelopment center for homeless and convicts. The former facility was there for more than 30 years.Ramirez hopes the city can do something to help them. At the gym, she's planning to lock the gate each day to make sure there is no more unwanted surprises. The Deputy City Manager, William Wolfe, said the city's reunited 50-60 homeless people with their families who are now caring for them. He said he is meeting with local business owners Thursday night to talk about forming a homeless task force. He said the city already has a Quality of Life Team, made up of local leaders to address these issues and seek out solutions. If a business owner has an issue with homeless, Wolfe said they should call him.Ramirez opened Boombox after rediscovering her love for fitness. She played basketball, volleyball and softball in her youth and after having children she wanted to rekindle that fire. Her gym is named after their empowering music that is often flowing through the open doors.Ramirez said the gym is a labor of love, adding members helped her paint the gym and build equipment. 2313
