Positions include:Employment Program Representative: Requires college education and public contact experience to process claims and assist customers, including over the phone and off-phone work.Office Technician: Requires clerical skills to assist customers over the phone.Financial services classifications including Tax Auditor and Accountant 1 Specialist, Accounting Technician, and Accounting Officer positions: Requires professional accounting coursework along with up to three years of accounting/auditing experience. In Houston, Texas, everything is bigger, including the city’s problem with PPE litter.Many of the masks, gloves, and bottles of hand sanitizer being used to protect people during the pandemic aren’t being disposed of properly and some are worried it’s becoming a health hazard.Now, city leaders are taking matters into their own hands while trying to take PPE litter off the street“I know that they say everything is bigger in Texas but we definitely don’t want to be known for a big litter problem,” said Martha Castex-Tatum, Houston’s Vice Mayor Pro-Tem, who is helping launch the city’s new anti-PPE littering campaign.“It’s not only unsightly but it’s also a health issue,” she said. “If the PPE is contaminated, we don’t want other people touching it.”Castex-Tatum says stopping litter before it starts could save money in the long run.“It’s always expensive to pick up litter,” she said. “For instance, this PPE litter ends up in our drains. The city of Houston, we spend million a year cleaning out our drains.”Down the drains and into waterways, where the health impacts could be significant.“Unlike sewage systems, storm water is untreated and it flows directly into our lakes and our rivers and our oceans. There’s no intermediate treatment,” said Rachel Meidl, LP.D., CHMM, a fellow in energy and environment at Rice Univeristy. She says trash attracts trash and that PPE litter is a problem, not only in Houston but around the world.“As it concerns the pandemic, it’s how do we manage it,” Meidl asked.For some Houstonians, the answer to that question is simple.“It takes five seconds of your time to find a trash can,” one local man said about properly disposing PPE. “Just do it.”Just do it: another famous slogan from another famous campaign, something Castex-Tatum hopes Houston can replicate.“It’s important for people to know the message the message that we are trying to send with the anti-litter campaign,” she said.That message is clear: don’t let Houston go to waste.“I hope this inspires other cities across the country to also kick off anti-litter campaign,” Castex-Tatum said. 2113

It's Halloween, a great time to be scared, right? But for many of us fears aren't fun and games. You might think it's best to stay away from the things that scare you the most. But one expert says doing the opposite may help you more.How about if you're afraid of germs?"You could touch the inside of the toilet and you can rub that on your face," says Psychologist Dr. David Shanley.It sounds gross, and if you're afraid of germs the thought is downright terrifying.But Shanley, who helps people fight their phobias, says facing your fears head on could be the key to getting over them. The first step is to asses exactly what they're fearing and what they're doing to avoid it. Then determine how much exposure to that fear a client can take. For example, a fear of dogs.  "If they take their fear head on and go to the dog park straight out then they're going to save themselves a lot of time of working up step-by-step," Shanley says.  Not everyone can go that far that fast. But Shanley says there has to be some level of exposure to make progress. Not just to fears on the outside, but on the inside.  "Part of the exposure is actually flooding them to those scariest thoughts," Dr. Shanley says.  If a person were afraid of elevators or tight spaces, overcoming the fear is about more than riding from floor to floor.  "You more want them actually thinking all the worst case scenarios so that they know that the next time they need to get into the elevator they can do it whether they are having happy thoughts or negative thoughts," Shanley says.  And when facing a fear of heights, the same principles apply.  "I would ask the person to, all right can you climb up here?" Shanley says. "And then as they are climbing up I would also be telling them, all right now look down and think about wow that's a long ways down and what if I fell?"  Dr. Shanley says these are all things you can try on your own, and repetition is key."Without it their success rate of the treatment is a lot less," Shanley says.  And don't be shy. Shanley says if you don't face your deepest, darkest fear, it could come back. Something to keep in perspective when things get a little dirty."I don't have to like it.
