Shanann Watts' mother said she knew something terrible had happened to her, even before the Colorado wife and mother was reported missing.Last year, Sandy Rzucek recalled something woke her from her sleep, and she sat up in bed. He later pleaded guilty to the killings, and is serving five life sentences -- three consecutive and two concurrent -- after Shanann's family agreed to drop the possibility of pursuing the death penalty.Rzucek and her husband and son shared their reactions to the recently released tapes of Chris Watts' five-hour confession to law enforcement, and spoke about how they've struggled with the deaths and with understanding why Watts committed the murders.Watts had initially denied involvement in the August disappearance of his wife and children, and expressed concern about their well-being to a local news station. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is proposing a condensed, two-day calendar for opening arguments in President Donald Trump's impeachment trial, ground rules that are raising objections from Democrats on the eve of the landmark proceedings. The Republican leader outlined the process in a four-page resolution that will be voted on as one of the first orders of business when senators convene Tuesday. It also pushes off any votes on witnesses until later in the process, rather than up front, as Democrats had demanded. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer expressed his opposition to McConnell's proposals late Monday. "We will be able to introduce amendments and we will introduce a whole series of amendments for witnesses, for documents and other ways to straighten out what McConnell has done and make it a real trial," Schumer said.Each side will be given 24 hours over the course of two days to make their arguments. That means that opening arguments will conclude by the weekend. Arguments are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) introduced a new bill Monday that would require anyone buying tobacco products — including e-cigarettes or vaping products — be 21 years old.The bill, which is co-sponsored by Sen. Researchers in Germany have recently published a study finding that a small percentage of people have developed an addiction to shopping. The October 2019 study released in Comprehensive Psychiatry explores the addictive response to shopping. The study found that 1 in 20 of adults developed an addiction to shopping. The researchers dubbed the addiction as "buying-shopping disorder" (BSD), which "is characterized by extreme preoccupations with and craving for buying/shopping and by irresistible and identity-seeking urges to possess consumer goods."While the study looked at shopping more broadly, the researchers believe that the ability to shop online is feeding the addiction. "As e-commerce provides an important shopping environment, traditional BSD may migrate into the online retail market," the study states.
