(KGTV) Firefighters continue to mop up after the Valley Fire tore through Lawson Valley, burning 17,665 acres.Messages of gratitude for the crews on the frontlines can be seen throughout the area.At least 30 homes and 31 minor structures were destroyed, but all evacuation orders and road closures were lifted on Friday.In much of the burn area, firetrucks have been replaced with utility vehicles.“I watched the flames start coming over the mountain, like fingers, like some creature,” said Seth Matteson who lives in Lawson Valley.He left his home as the fire started to spread Sept. 5, fearing the worst, but was thankful to come home and find his house on Prairie Drive still standing.“In the back it came right up to the house, and in the front it came right up to the house,” he explained.Just down the road, several homes and vehicles burned in the fire.“I’ve been through 8 hurricanes, and this is way scarier to me than that. (KGTV) - Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez announced she will introduce two new housing bills in the state assembly this week.One of them aims to prohibit developers from separating affordable housing units from market rate units in the same building.The bill came in response to a fight last summer between Canadian developer, Pinnacle and Civic San Diego, the city agency that was responsible for overseeing design approval.Pinnacle had submitted plans for a building on 11th Avenue between A & B Streets. The main tower was 32 stories tall and would be available at market rates. The tower was attached to an eight-story building that would house 58 affordable units, in order to satisfy the density bonus granted to Pinnacle for this and two other projects in the area.But Civic San Diego rejected the plan on the grounds that the affordable housing units had a separate entrance and restricted access to amenities in the 32-story tower, including the pool.“We can’t create a system that allows developers to separate out folks,” said Gonzalez at a press conference on Monday.A draft summary of the bill, AB 2344, stated it will “prohibit the owner or agent of an owner from isolation the affordable housing units within that structure to a specific floor or area within the structure.”After Civic San Diego rejected the proposal from Pinnacle, the developer came back with a new plan that eliminated the eight-story affordable housing section entirely. Local physicians are stressing the importance of getting screened.For four years, the actor fought a silent battle with this cancer. He was diagnosed in his late 30's, much younger than the age many get tested."What we have seen is in younger people, the rates of colon cancer are going up and have actually gone up every decade, and the reasons for that are not known," says Dr. Abi Olulade with Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group.Olulade says the rates of colon cancer are higher in the African American community."Not only is there an increased rate in colon cancer, but there's an increased chance of dying from this if you are African American," says Olulade.The American Cancer Society estimates 12-percent of colorectal cancer diagnosis this year will be in people under the age of 50."People have put off their screening, which is dangerous," says Dr. Walter Coyle with the Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center.Coyle says due to the pandemic, fewer patients are coming in for screenings."The American Cancer Society says we should start screening people at age 45 and up now. All the other societies say 50 unless you're African American."Coyle says a healthy diet can help lower the risks of this cancer. He hopes the news of famous actor Chadwick Boseman will encourage people to get their screenings."I couldn't imagine someone that young and vigorous dying.
