(KGTV) - As the country waits to hear what happened to missing Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen, a San Diego group for female veterans is ready to offer support for anyone who needs it.Related: Army confirms identity of suspect in Vanessa Guillen case who died of self-inflicted gunshot woundGuillen was last seen April 22, 2020 and while the Army has said there are no signs of sexual assault, her family says otherwise. Now, posts with the tag #IAmVanessaGuillen are circulating online, as people share their own stories of sexual assault in the military.Billiekai Boughton with the San Diego Women Veterans Network said any conversation like this can bring up hard memories for female veterans. She said while many women have a positive experience in the military, four out of five females report harassment or assault. The goal of her group is to support women through any of this pain. She says this is important in a community like San Diego which has about 26,000 female veterans.“For those of us who have been in the military and have had negative experiences, this can be a memory (sic) of feeling unsafe,” said Boughton.The group’s website says the most common request of women veterans in San Diego is to meet other women veterans. Their primary goal is to create a community for female military veterans, while also encouraging community service and policy change, which encourages and embraces the positive traits female vets have to offer.“Our friends remind us how strong we are. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --Lanes of the southbound 805 freeway were closed Friday night, after a major crash north of the Home Avenue exit. San Diego police confirm an officer was nearly hit by a car while responding to the accident and made an urgent call for backup.The blue, four-door sedan involved in the crash was smashed up against an embankment when the 10News crew got to the scene. 10News Anchor Brian Shlonsky posted on the southbound 94, near the onramp to the 805, where officers were flagging traffic to notify them of the closure.  566

They were chosen from around 280 that applied."It's more art than science," says Mike Krenn, the CEO of San Diego Venture Group. They're one of the sponsors of the event. "There were so many companies. We fought long and hard over who were the final 10. But they've all got some momentum going to market, all chasing big opportunities."One company, DoWhop, is an online marketplace to buy and sell experiences around San Diego. It's founder, Rae Lietzau, says winning this competition would mean expanding her workforce and bandwidth on the site."At this stage, every dollar counts," says Lietzau. "Right now it means allowing more people to get paid to do what they love to do."In addition to SD Venture Group, the event is put on by Tech Coast Angels and the John G. Howard Foundation. All three groups work to improve business in the region. Krenn says this year's competition shows how San Diego has become a hub for start-ups."We're really on the upswing," says Krenn. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Students say they are nervous about what’s next for the Art Institute of California San Diego.Last July, the organization’s parent company announced they were no longer enrolling new students at the Mission Valley Campus. The school’s federal funding is now in jeopardy. The Department of Education has decided to stop providing financial aid to the institution’s parent company, Argosy University. “They tell me everything is going to be fine, but in reality, it's not,” says student Nicholas Roberts. He is just three months away from getting his degree for the Art Institute of California San Diego. “(I’m) a little afraid because my family and myself kind of rely on me finishing this degree.”Classes are still in session at the Mission Valley Campus.A letter was sent out to students from the institution, saying in part: “We continue to work with our accreditors, state regulators and the U.S. Department of Education to identify the best path forward for our students and are working with them to ensure students know their options.” 1066

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Nearly 200 volunteers are working in Logan Heights fixing up homes for families. One of those volunteers is Alexandra Pasquale. She believes this isn't just about grabbing tools and doing work, this is about families in the community.She's glad she can help them, "create their own wonderful memories, providing an environment they can have family meals in." Pasquale is part of Realty Income. The real estate company has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity. They will build 11 homes.As teams they're building fences, painting, and installing plywood.
