But what's catching the eyes of speeding drivers now is a creature of myth and legend.On Ron DiDonato's Indian Hills property is a 5-foot pink pig with wings that flap, attached to a 10-foot pole.“I knew this would be an attention-getter and it definitely has been,” DiDonato said. “At first, I didn’t know if it was going to be good or not because they were stopping in the street to look at it."DiDonato said he decided to create the flying pig to play off the saying that the only time traffic would slow down on Parmalee Gulch Road is when pigs fly.“I couldn’t go out, couldn’t do anything, so I decided to do this just to slow the traffic down and it sure has helped,” DiDonato said. “I’m not an artist of any sort, so I did papier-maché, and to make it weatherproof I fiberglassed it. Then painted it pink and put lipstick on it.”Ron needed newspaper for his papier-maché project, which his granddaughter helped with, so he contacted Terri Wiebold, publisher of the Castle Pines Connection.“Having done some pandemic purging ourselves, The Castle Pines Connection had set aside some archived papers to recycle, and we were happy to oblige DiDonato’s request," Wiebold said.DiDonato said so far, it seems to be working — people are so surprised to see the flying pig, they slow down to take it all in.DiDonato said he blames the speeding problem on the growth that has been coming as fast as the drivers down these foothill roads and in this part of Jefferson County.Mike Taplin, public information officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office said he doesn't know if the flying pig has helped slow speeding traffic."If people post something or do something to help remind drivers to follow traffic laws and drive with safety in mind, we do not have a problem," he said. "The public should not attempt to enforce traffic laws themselves — that needs to be done by law enforcement agencies.”DiDonato said he plans to leave it up all winter and for as long as it keeps working to slow down drivers who like to push well past the 30 mph speed limit on the straight stretch of road through his neighborhood.“All my neighbors are really happy I did it. KENOSHA — In his first time speaking publicly since his arrest, Kyle Rittenhouse told the Washington Post that he "would have died that night" if he hadn't brought a gun to a Kenosha protest where law enforcement officials say he shot and killed two men.Unrest broke out in Kenosha following the Aug. 23 police shooting of Jacob Blake. Police said Rittenhouse, 17, is charged with the homicides of two men during the night of Aug. 25. KEARNY MESA (CNS) - A man armed with a BB gun robbed a Korean restaurant in Kearny Mesa, San Diego police said.The robbery took place just before 10 p.m. Friday at Woomiok, located in the 3800 block of Convoy Street, SDPD said.The thief, allegedly a former employee of Woomiok's, stole 0 from the register, SDPD said. While reaching over to grab the money from the register, the employee he threatened with the gun, grabbed it. During the struggle for the gun the suspect dropped it and ran from the restaurant heading southeast through the parking lot.The robber was described as Hispanic. He stood 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed about 135 pounds, SDPD said. The thief was wearing all black clothes and had a black backpack.No injuries were reported. 764

KANSAS CITY, Kansas — A second company associated with Schlitterbahn has been named in a newly unsealed criminal indictment.Henry & Sons Construction is listed as a co-defendant in the murder case of 10 year old Caleb Schwab.The boy died on the Verruckt water slide in 2016.According to the indictment, Henry & Sons was the design and construction company for Verruckt.Reviews posted online by people who identify themselves as former employees raise safety concerns before the Schwab tragedy. On the job website Indeed.com, a person who identifies himself as a former welder for Henry & Sons submitted a February 2015 review for the company.The review claims management would ignore issues or "let them pass" like damaged work equipment.The welder also says managers wouldn't require a safety harness to work six feet off the ground and they "just wanted to get the job done no matter how risky it could be."Other review headlines include "Unsafe Working Environment", "Lack of Management Skills" and "Unorganized."At least one poster, however, gave the company five stars, calling it "an amazing place to work." The latest indictment states company owner Jeff Henry hired a man named John Hunsucker as a consultant for the operation and safety of Verruckt.But Hunsucker told investigators that while he could make suggestions, it was only Henry who made the decisions.The indictment further says Henry never asked Hunsucker to check if the water slide met industry safety standards, which the indictment claims in many ways it did not. 1587
