REDMOND, Wash. (AP) — Microsoft is buying the company behind popular video games The Elder Scrolls, Doom and Fallout. The software giant said Monday that it is paying .5 billion for ZeniMax Media, the parent company of video game publisher Bethesda Softworks. Microsoft said it is buying Bethesda in part to beef up its Xbox Game Pass game subscription service, which it says has over 15 million subscribers. Bethesda games, such as Starfield, which is currently in development, will launch on Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or computers. Steve Faught would put his dog, Riley, in his old Ford pickup and take him to a nearby baseball field to play fetch.  On his way Thursday night, he stopped by Stage Stop Liquor and Gas to pick up a six-pack of beer. But he never made it to the field. Faught was found at the gas station with a major injury to his neck, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. He was airlifted to a hospital for surgery but did not survive. His older brother, Jerry Faught, described him as funny, with a warm personality. “To him, life was a good place,” he said. “He was just the kind of person you’d like to know.” Faught heard the news from Steve’s wife, who called him at his home in Portland. His older brother instincts kicked in. “I couldn’t help him. I couldn’t save him. That’s hard,” he said. Homicide detectives are trying to piece together what happened and what led up to the altercation, but as of Friday morning they had not been able to locate any witnesses or surveillance video. The suspect, 26-year old Jarrett Wishnick, has been arrested for murder. 1169

Ray Chavez, the nation's oldest survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, has died, the White House says. He was 106.The veteran passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, CNN affiliate KFMB reported, citing a family statement.Chavez was a quartermaster stationed in Pearl Harbor at the time of the Japanese attack on Hawaii that launched America's entry into World War II in 1941.He lived in Poway, California, with his family but gained prominence in recent years as he traveled around the country, attending memorial services and commemorations. Earlier this year, he met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office ahead of Memorial Day."Ray was honored to have served his country and to fight among heroes and loved meeting his fellow comrades," his family said in a statement.
