SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some seniors say they’re hitting a frustrating roadblock of red tape at the DMV. They say health concerns aside, the state has made getting into a field office to complete requirements impossible.Although many DMV tasks can be completed online, the agency requires an in-person visit for several types of service. Once drivers hit the age of 70, the DMV requires them to renew their licenses in-person to take vision and knowledge tests.The DMV has granted drivers aged 70 and up a four-month extension to renew licenses, but only for licenses that expire through July 31. But the DMV isn’t offering new appointments, as it works through the backlog of visits that were canceled during the months-long closure. The DMV is only accepting walk-ups for a handful for services, and not for seniors seeking license renewal.“It's ridiculous and I think the governor should do something,” she said.The agency has been opaque about when it will begin accepting new appointments. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State Students created public service announcements, as part of a competition, to encourage their peers to take precautions and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Thursday the university announced two more students tested positive for the virus, making the total four since move in.The County of San Diego and SDSU will use the PSAs online as part of a new ad campaign, according to the county.The university came to the county amid a spike in cases among young people age 20-29. San Diego County reported 25% of positive cases belong to that age group."We're asking people of your generation of your age group to do the right thing," Dr. Hala Madanat, Director of the School of Public Health at SDSU, said. She led the charge to create the competition."I really was hoping that we would hear from the age group where we were struggling to get adherence to the guidelines and be the ones to encourage their peers," to follow the guidelines she said.One of the three winners, Senior JakeBryan Bonifacio, said he felt an obligation to use his skills to help. "It [the pandemic] is very concerning so that’s why I felt compelled to share this opportunity, share my video."Bonifacio is a Marketing major and already had the tools to create a video. He said he used his own camera and editing software.He said it was most important to create an impact using levity and positivity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s Planning Commission met Thursday to discuss potential new rules that would help regulate the short-term rental industry in the city.A plan proposed by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell was first introduced in July after a compromise was reached among members of the hospitality industry and short-term rental companies.The plan would implement tighter restrictions such as capping the number of short-term rental permits that are granted. There are also plans to require a two-night minimum stay to avoid one-night stays that are often connected to big parties that concerns residents.A representative for Campbell says implementing tighter regulations will help law enforcement address any problems that may arise.The proposed plan creates penalties and fines for those who violate the city’s “good neighbor” policy.More than 500 people signed up to voice their opinion about this proposal during Thursday’s virtual meeting.One caller said, “We depend on this for our livelihood, especially since the pandemic has taken a toll on us already. Without having the ability to host, many of us will be forced to leave our homes.”Another caller added, “This has been an issue for years. It’s now time to act and bring it to a close.”The next step will be to send the proposal to the full City Council for review. 1350

These Angels of the Jungle built a hospital and treated these fragile refugees.There are angels out in force every spring at the Embarcadero Marina Park North. The Celebration of Champions honors the doctors and nurses at Rady Children's Hospital and raises the spirits of hundreds of children and their families fighting to live healthy, happy lives. Sports figures and media types running with these champions and honoring those tearfully paying homage to the ones who've passed. It's an emotional day.4th of July is a blast! Thousands descend on Scripps Ranch each year. Snow Summit was a bit colder but a fabulous time as well.Finally we remember a little Lakeside girl: an Angel in Heaven, Hero on Earth, Forever in our Hearts. Kiera Larsen was ten years old when the family SUV began rolling down the driveway toward her playmates. She ran over and pushed two younger friends to safety but was crushed to death herself. Kiera was recognized with a Carnegie Hero medal and a personal letter from then President Barack Obama. We celebrate Kiera. 2918
