EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A single mom's heart dropped when discovered her empty parking spot outside an El Cajon apartment. Two days after Christmas, Heather Williams' holiday cheer vanished when she stepped outside her apartment on North Mollison Ave."I came out to go to the grocery store and just stared at the empty parking spot ... My world just started spinning," said Williams. The 1997 white Honda Civic she bought used a few years ago was gone."I feel like a crappy mom. Someone took our vehicle," said Williams. It's Williams' only vehicle. Her kids go to two different high schools in El Cajon. "I have no way to get my kids to and from school. I don't know what I'm going to do," said Williams.Williams also fears her son may have to quit his job at a bait and tackle shop in Lakeside. The car was his only means of getting to work."It's his dream job. He loves fishing ... He's very upset," said Williams.Family members are also puzzled. Williams says she secured the car with an anti-theft gear shift lock."It covers the emergency break and extends to the gear shift. It's supposedly better than 'The Club' and how they got it off, I don't know," said Williams. One possibility: the thief could have loaded the car onto a flatbed truck. Willaims says there are two parrot stickers attached to the car, one on the back and one on the back windshield. The license plate of the stolen car is 3-T-M-J-2-9-5. Anyone with information is asked to call El Cajon Police at 619-579-3311.A Gofundme campaign has been started to help purchase a new car. 1560

During an interview with British think tank Chatham House on Wednesday, National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease Director Dr. Anthony Fauci said that while the end of the pandemic is in sight, the worst may still be yet to come.In an interview with the British policy institute Chatham House on Wednesday, Fauci said Americans should have reserved excitement regarding an impending vaccine. His comments came just days after Pfizer announced that it's vaccine candidate was 90% effective in Phase 3 trials and is on track for an Emergency Use Authorization application. But the comments also came as the U.S. in the midst of the largest spike in new cases since the pandemic began as well as an uptick in deaths and hospitalizations."I look at the vaccine is that help is coming and it's coming soon," Fauci said. "...for the time being, we have to adhere to the public health measures, and I hope that the fact that people realize that help is on the way in the form of a vaccine and soon, that that would get them to be even more motivated to do the public health measures."Despite the spike in cases, Fauci stressed that he does not believe the U.S. would require another shutdown in order to get things under control. Instead, he pointed to five public health measures everyone should take to avoid spreading the virus.Wear a maskKeep social distanceAvoid large gatheringsConsistent handwashingAvoiding indoor bars, restaurants and similar businesses — while allowing outdoor seatingPublic health experts believe that a COVID-19 vaccine could be available to some in high-risk populations before the new year, but won't be widely available until spring or summer 2021. In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Fauci said he expects a vaccine to be widely available in April. But despite the likelihood of a vaccine in the near future, Fauci believes COVID-19 is something the world will likely be living with for years to come. He told Chatham House officials that while he believes the world will be able to control the virus with vaccines, he's not sure if it will ever be completely eradicated."I doubt we are going to eradicate this. I think we need to plan that this is something we may need to maintain control over chronically. It may be something that becomes endemic, that we have to just be careful about," he said. "Certainly, it is not going to be a pandemic for a lot longer because I believe the vaccines are going to turn that around."Fauci added that while his administration has faced other infectious diseases that have yet to be eradicated like HIV, anthrax, Ebola and Zika, those diseases have been essentially "put to rest" — still spreading, but at a manageable rate. 2709

Dr. Anthony Fauci delivered more good news regarding a potential coronavirus vaccine, indicating some Americans could begin getting vaccinated by the end of this month.During an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said it’s possible a vaccine could begin reaching some Americans by the end of the month, but was confident some would begin getting vaccinated by the end of the year.Fauci’s declaration came on the same day Pfizer said that its Phase 3 vaccine candidate was showing an effectiveness of over 90%. Fauci said the announcement was promising, but a few more questions need to be addressed before it is given approval. Fauci said that things like the vaccine’s durability and effect on the elderly are among concerns that still need to be tackled.“We may have doses that we’re able to give to people by the end of November, beginning of December,” Fauci told CNN’s Blitzer. “Now you have to go through the hoops of making sure all of the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed about the safety and regulatory aspects of it, but we would be giving vaccine, very likely, by the end of this year. That is good news.”Last month, the FDA put into place guidelines on approving a vaccine, which was more restrictive than what the White House had hoped for. The FDA noted that a vaccine candidate must be at least 50% effective. Vaccine candidates should include a median follow-up duration of at least two months after completion of the full vaccination regimen to help provide adequate information to assess a vaccine’s risk-benefit.“In addition to outlining our expectations for vaccine sponsors, we also hope the agency's guidance on COVID-19 vaccines helps the public understand our science-based decision-making process that assures vaccine quality, safety and efficacy for any vaccine that is authorized or approved,” Peter Marks, M.D., Ph.D., director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said. While it is possible some will begin getting vaccinated in the coming weeks or months, questions remain on how soon a majority of the country will have the opportunity to become vaccinated. The first Americans slated to become vaccinated will be health care workers and people with a high risk of coronavirus complications, such as the elderly and those living in assisted living facilities, according to an NPR report.Given that Pfizer’s vaccine candidate is showing a high level of effectiveness, Fauci called the development “extraordinary.”"We know there's light at the end of the tunnel, but that doesn't mean that we're going to give up the important public health measures that we continually still have to do every single day,” Fauci said. While there is urgency for both public health and economic reasons for a vaccine, some experts have expressed concern over the speed of a vaccine and whether the expedited timeline is long enough to demonstrate efficacy.Even though a vaccine could be ready by year’s end, trials will be expected to continue for over a year to monitor for possible side effects.According to the FDA, a typical Phase 3 trial would take one to three years.“NIH is committed to supporting several Phase 3 vaccine trials to increase the odds that one or more will be effective in preventing COVID-19 and put us on the road to recovery from this devastating pandemic,” said NIH Director Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D. “We also know that preventing this disease could require multiple vaccines and we’re investing in those that we believe have the greatest potential for success.”Pfizer said based on current projections, it expects to produce globally up to 50 million vaccine doses in 2020 and up to 1.3 billion doses in 2021. 3823

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Jack Nicklaus says he and wife Barbara tested positive for the coronavirus at the onset of the pandemic. Nicklaus says he and wife Barbara stayed at home in Florida from about March 13 until they were "done with it" on April 20. He says he had a sore throat and a cough, while Barbara had no symptoms of COVID-19. Both turned 80 earlier this year. Nicklaus says given their age, they were "a couple of the lucky ones." Nicklaus says they have tested positive for antibodies. He has said he would shake the hand of whoever wins his tournament Sunday. But he says if the player doesn't want to, that would be OK. 638

DUNMORE, Pa. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden proposed a sweeping new use of the federal government's regulatory and spending power to bolster U.S. manufacturing and technology firms.Biden wants a 0 billion, four-year increase in government purchasing of U.S.-based goods and services plus 0 billion in new research and development in U.S. technology concerns. It calls for such investments before negotiating any new international trade deals.Biden also proposes tightening current "Buy American" laws that are intended to benefit U.S. firms but can be easily circumvented by government agencies. The speech was an attempt for Biden to position his campaign to attack President Donald Trump on the economy. Biden slammed Trump on his administration's handling of the coronavirus, which led to historic levels of unemployment earlier this year. Biden also claimed that Trump has placed a disproportionate amount of focus on the stock market and not on the economy as a whole.Biden discussed the proposals at a metal works concern in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. 1085
