(KGTV) — The Olympics may not be here yet, but locals don't have to wait to see athletes prepare for the chance to climb the Olympic podium.That's because Chula Vista is home to the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center, an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site that's home to USA track and field, para track and field, rugby, archery, bmx, and para tennis. Tour are offered in three tiers: Bronze (), silver (), and gold ().Bronze tours provide a guided tour down the mile-long Olympic path that runs through the campus and gives an overlook to many of the venues that athletes use. Silver tours walk visitors around the complex with an upclose look at the training sites. They also get a behind the scenes walk through of the strength and conditioning center and dining hall.The top tier, gold, provides the benefits of silver, plus an "eat like an athlete" lunch buffet experience inside the dining hall. In 2017, the City of Chula Vista took ownership of the facility from the United States Olympic Committee. (KGTV) -- Four Eastlake Middle School students were arrested Wednesday after reportedly bringing an “explosive device on campus.” According to the Chula Vista Police, school resource officers with the department were called to the school after receiving reports of an explosive device found on campus. After arriving, officers learned that the device had already been detonated. No students were harmed and no property damaged, police say. (KGTV) — Worried about having their young students continue to develop reading skills during distance learning, the Chula Vista Elementary School District has launched a new effort to get each students books they can have at home.“When you start reading at a later age, reading becomes a chore," said Dr. Lydia Burgos, Principal at Montgomery Elementary. "We want them to become lovers of books.”CVESD schools are working to find sources of reading level-appropriate books. They have developed partnerships with civic organizations, such as Lions and Rotary Clubs, as well as getting donations from UC San Diego. Some teachers are soliciting cash donations online to purchase books. “We begged, borrowed, and stolen from anywhere that we can in order to have the different levels we need so that all of our students have multiple books in their book bag," said Harborside Elementary Principal Lisa Forehand.Once the books are obtained, they are divided into packets that families can pick up during set distribution times. 1050

(KGTV) -- No charges were filed Thursday against a Chula Vista police officer arrested last week after a reported domestic violence incident, though the case remains under investigation, according to a spokesperson for the District Attorney.Leopoldo Armando Chousal, 27, was arrested on March 14 on the 6400 block of Potomac Street in a reported off-duty domestic violence incident.He was booked on one count of making criminal threats to harm his girlfriend.RELATED: Chula Vista officer arrested for off-duty domestic violence incident"CVPD takes these allegations seriously and was disappointed to learn of this incident. We are cooperating with SDPD’s criminal investigation and we are conducting an internal investigation concurrently," CVPD Lt.
