Days after a dad was caught on camera being shot as he shielded his children from gunfire at Bronx car dealership, a family friend says he has lost his job.An innocent bystander, 39-year-old Anthony Jefferson was struck in the right thigh when the shooting erupted Monday, officials said.On a GoFundMe campaign page started Thursday by close friend Serena Wingate, she wrote that Jefferson had lost his job due to the injury and also has to have surgery to remove the bullet.Jefferson's wife, Danica Jefferson, told TMZ that the injury left him temporarily unable to walk. This has resulted in the heroic dad being fired from both of his two jobs as a construction worker and head painter at a maintenance company, TMZ reported.Wingate said she set up the GoFundMe to help the dad with medical bills and help his kids with therapy after the traumatic experience.According the family friend, the father and his three kids were at the dealership shopping for a new vehicle to surprise his wife for her birthday.That's when shots rang out inside the Boston Road business. Three men opened fire on another man, who fired several rounds back, police said.Surveillance video shows the dad diving and huddling over the kids on the floor behind a couch. Now, more businesses have taken notice and are taking action. “These are the boards we have here,” said Joe Quintana who works at a souvenir shop in downtown Denver. After several neighboring businesses were broken into, Quintana’s boss decided to board up his business. “It takes time and more money to do this but trying to keep the safety out here,” he said. Construction crews are now working around the clock, protecting properties with plywood. “It can be hectic having to put this stuff up on a regular basis,” said handyman Jeffrey Berlin, who is reluctantly cashing in on the chaos. After being out of work for months due to COVID-19 concerns, Berlin is taking whatever jobs he can get, including boarding up buildings like Starbucks coffee shops. “I’d like to have a lot more (work) but I don’t want to get it under these circumstances,” he said. These circumstances have caused more businesses to board up their properties including some that recently reopened during this pandemic. “We’re just trying to stay safe because you don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Cody Kluck, who manages Osteria Marco. "I want my members to know I will always be there for them rain, snow, shine, it doesn’t matter."Thompson has been calling the 16th Street Mall his office for over two decades. Shining the shoes of tourists, locals, business people, and even mayors."If you are in the business world, your shoes and boots should represent your job; you go to work with a dirty shoe on, you are not going to close the deal," Thompson said.The fast-talking comedian is somewhat of a local celebrity in the area."I keep my shoes so waterproofed I believe they can walk on water," Thompson joked.He charges for shoes for boots and for a lifetime membership."He gives ya hell on your shoes," lifetime member Jason Kuzov said. The Federal Trade Commission said Americans should be wary if they receive a phone call regarding their stimulus check. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government issued ,200 checks to millions of Americans with a number of businesses closed. The FTC is warning that scammers could potentially try to trick you out of your personal information. The agency says that fraudsters rig caller ID to make the number appear to come from a government hotline.“Government agencies usually will not call or email you — especially about something related to money. They almost always contact you by US mail,” the FTC said.The IRS is sending letters to Americans as a confirmation for receiving the stimulus check.The FTC says that scammers will claim to be calling over something such as Medicare, Social Security, or in this case, your stimulus check, and will ask for personal information to verify.“If you get a call or email from the IRS or any government agency asking you for personal information or money, that’s a scam. Hang up the phone or delete the email,” the FTC said.If you have questions about your stimulus check, you can call an IRS hotline at 800-919-9835.The IRS said earlier this month that 159 million Americans have received a stimulus check.
