SAN DIEGO (CNS) - State regulators have approved .1 million in funding for a slew of hydrogen refueling stations, including four in San Diego County, officials said Saturday.The funding, for a total of 123 stations statewide, will "expand California's early commercial light duty hydrogen refueling and fuel cell electric vehicle markets and (will) accommodate the projected FCEV roll-out in 2021-2024," according to the California Energy Commission.Funds were awarded to three companies -- FirstElement, Iwatani and Shell -- for 36 hydrogen stations to service passenger vehicles. Another 87 stations were also recommended for funding to these same awardees in subsequent funding batches.The funding awarded Friday includes stations at the following locations:1832 W. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The body of a 14-year-old boy was found near railroad tracks by a maintenance crew in the Bay Ho neighborhood, sheriff's officials said.At about 2:50 a.m. Saturday, the crew discovered someone who appeared to be struck by a train in the area of 6000 Santa Fe St., according to Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department homicide unit.After an investigation at the scene by the sheriff's Railroad Enforcement Team, the homicide unit took over the case, Seiver said.The boy has been identified and his next of kin notified, but his name is being withheld because it may jeopardize the investigation, the lieutenant said.The county Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of the boy's death, Seiver said.Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's homicide unit at 858-285-6330 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 929

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The discovery of an unidentified and potentially suspicious object on the grounds of Lindbergh Field Monday prompted the evacuation of a non-public operations structure until a bomb squad determined that there was no safety hazard.The security measures at the Delta Cargo building on the southeast side of the bayside international airport began about 1:30 p.m., San Diego Harbor Police Lt. Victor Banuelos said.Officials cleared all workers out of the Airlane Road facility and called in the Metro Arson Strike Team, which determined that the object was harmless. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County's unadjusted unemployment rate fell in September with multiple industries in the county showing employment increases, the California Employment Development Department announced Friday.San Diego County's overall unemployment rate fell two-10ths of a percent from 3.6 percent in August to 3.4 percent in September. The September rate was also lower than the county's unemployment rate one year ago, when it sat at 3.7 percent.Total nonfarm employment increased in September compared with August by 700 jobs while agricultural employment increased by 100 jobs. Nonfarm employment now sits at 1,479,500.Government and educational and health services jobs all saw month-over-month increases in employment, largely due to the end of summer recesses and breaks according to the EDD. Local and federal government jobs increased by 5,100 in the county while educational and health services jobs increased by a total of 1,600.The leisure and hospitality industry saw the biggest decline in month-over-month job numbers, losing 2,000 jobs due to the end of summer recesses and breaks. Leisure and hospitality also saw year-over-year losses of 1,700 jobs.Yearly nonfarm employment increased 26,900 jobs, or 1.9 percent, between September 2017 and 2018,  while farm jobs increased by 100 from 2017 to 2018, a 1.1 percent growth rate. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego State University reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, bringing the total number of cases to 1,072 since Aug. 24, the first day of instruction for the fall semester.The new totals reported by Student Health Services reflect numbers as of 6 p.m. Saturday.Of the students living on campus, 385 have tested positive and students living off-campus totaled 666 positive cases, health services said. A total of eight faculty or staff members have tested positive and 13 "visitors," people who have had exposure with an SDSU-affiliated individual, have tested positive.The number of confirmed cases was 1,030, with 42 probable cases.The information is based on cases reported to Student Health Services by an individual or by a public health official. As more private labs are administering tests, there is a possibility that not all cases are being reported to Student Health Services.For privacy reasons, SDSU does not report names, affiliations or health conditions of students, faculty or staff who test positive for COVID-19 unless a public health agency advises that there is a health and public safety benefit to reporting such details. 1176
