OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A 32-foot sailboat capsized and ran aground on the Oceanside shoreline Saturday morning, authorities said.The boat's skipper and only occupant was treated at a hospital but only sustained minor injuries from the accident, which police responded to at around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Oceanside Police Officer Nick Nunez said.The skipper had left Santa Catalina Island for Dana Point in Orange County late Friday, but his navigation equipment went out sometime during the journey and he decided to head for Oceanside, which he believed he could get to without instruments, Nunez said.The boat made it to Oceanside but the skipper missed the Oceanside Harbor entrance, got caught in a swell and ended up running into the beach near the 1200 block of North Pacific Street.Police were still working to get the boat off the beach around 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Nunez said. One of the men convicted of killing Michael Jordan’s dad, James Jordan, will be paroled in 2023, according to multiple reports.Larry Demery and his friend Daniel Green were arrested and tried for murder in the 1993 shooting death of James Jordan. Prosecutors said Demery and Green shot him, stole his car and then got rid of his body.In 1996, Demery and Green were sentenced to life in prison. Demery was spared the death penalty at the time because attorneys claimed he did not pull the trigger and he felt remorse, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. Demery pleaded guilty and testified against Green.North Carolina’s Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission released a short statement announcing they approved Demery to take part in a vocational and scholastic program as part of parole. OAKLAND, Calif. (KGTV) -- A young child apparently shot himself in the head at a home in Oakland Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported. The shooting, which happened on Ritchie Street, appeared to be an accident, police said. The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition, KGO reported.Police told KGO at least one adult was inside the home at the time.
