People need to be responsible pet owners in this community," says State Attorney Dave Aronberg."The animals should be a valued part of your family and they should be a part of your plan," says Animal Care and Control Capt. Dave Walesky. More than 50 dogs and 15 cats were surrendered to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. Around 38 other dogs, left to fend for themselves, mostly in the Glades area.  "Many of them were loose inside fenced yards, some were loose in the community where they just got turned loose or some were tied and left in small cages," says Walesky. "One of the dogs was left tied to a structure with a bowl of water and a bunch of bananas." It's not just sad, it's a crime. "And there is no excuse for leaving your pet behind to die. We are going to hold accountable those who we can prove left their dogs behind in the storm," says Aronberg.   1261

The NFL's chief medical officer told NFL Network that the league could pause the 2020 season due to rising COVID-19 cases.In an interview with NFL Network's Judy Battista, Dr. Allen Sills said that every option is on the table after several players on the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots tested positive for the coronavirus."We have never taken any option off the table, which includes, like you said, some type of pause or reset and any other alternative arrangements," Dr. Sills said in the interview. The Indianapolis 500 will be held without fans in attendance on Aug. 23 due to escalating concerns over the coronavirus pandemic in Marion County, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Tuesday.It will mark the first time in the 109-year history of the Indy 500 that it will be run in front of empty stands at the 2.5-mile oval track.“As dedicated as we were to running the race this year with 25 percent attendance at our large outdoor facility, even with meaningful and careful precautions implemented by the city and state, the COVID-19 trends in Marion County and Indiana have worsened," a news release from IMS said.First held in 1911, the Indianapolis 500 is the largest single-day sporting event in the world with approximately 350,000 people annually packing the track's grandstands and infield to watch "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Running the race without fans prevents the seventh cancellation in Indy 500 history. The race was not held in 1917-18 during World War I, and from 1942-45 during World War II.In late March, IMS leaders rescheduled the race from May 24 to Aug. 23. Officials said on June 26 that Indy 500 attendance would be limited to no more than 50%.That number was further decreased on July 22 when plans were scaled back to host the race at 25% capacity. Face coverings would be required, and the Speedway released an 88-page health and safety plan that provided guidelines and protocols for how the race would be run in 2020.Even at 25% capacity, the race would have been the largest event held in the United States since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.IndyCar and IMS owner Roger Penske previously said he wouldn't run the race without fans, but the realities of the pandemic prevailed.“We need to be safe and smart about this,” Penske told the Associated Press. “Obviously we want full attendance, but we don’t want to jeopardize the health and safety of our fans and the community. We also don’t want to jeopardize the ability to hold a successful race.”In a news release, IMS said in the weeks since the June 26 announcement of 50% capacity, the number of COVID-19 cases in Marion County has tripled while the positivity rate has doubled."We said from the beginning of the pandemic we would put the health and safety of our community first, and while hosting spectators at limited capacity with our robust plan in place was appropriate in late June, it is not the right path forward based on the current environment," the release said.How fans will be impactedThe announcement of no fans on race day also means all on-track activity during the month of August, including practice and qualifications, will be closed to the public. The first practice will take place on Aug. 12.Fans who still have tickets to the 2020 Indy 500 will be credited for the 2021 race and retain their seniority and originally assigned seats.Additionally, as announced in July, the race will be broadcast live on TV in Central Indiana for the first time since 2016.State and city leaders react to Speedway's decisionIndiana Gov. The Justice Department is examining a possible crime related to bribing the White House with money in exchange for a presidential pardon.According to federal court documents, which were first obtained by CNN, over 50 digital devices, including iPhones, iPads, laptops, thumb drives, and computer drives, were seized via search warrants as part of the government's bribery-for-pardon investigation.The court documents reveal that the emails confiscated show a "secret lobbying scheme" between unnamed individuals who tried to secure a presidential pardon in exchange for a "substantial political contribution or reprieve of a sentence" for a redacted individual.According to the Associated Press, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, who unsealed the court documents Tuesday, granted the investigators access to the emails that were not protected by the attorney-client privilege.However, the 20-page court documents did not specify that a bribe was ever offered, accepted, nor does it name any individual or President Donald Trump, NBC News reported. 1055

The Macomb County (Michigan) Sheriff's Office is investigating after a teacher was hit by a minivan outside of a school on Friday morning.According to the sheriff's office, the 57-year-old Lenox Township woman is a teacher at Prevail Academy in Mt. Clemens and was working as a crossing guard.She was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. No one else was injured.The sheriff's office say the driver is cooperating with deputies and the investigation is ongoing.Cass Ave. is shut down between Rose St. and Mary St. while they investigate. 574
