SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) -- A suspected arsonist was arrested for allegedly starting a series of brush fires in Otay Mesa West, Sunday afternoon. MAST (Metro Arson Strike Team) investigators booked 49 year-old Ramon Guevara for arson.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the blaze broke out just after 10:30 near 4th Avenue and Private Road. The fires were ignited in the valley at Otay Valley Regional Park.Crews say at least 10 spot fires started along the road and, as of 12:30 p.m., and had burned three acres. Sunday marked the third day in a row small brush fires popped up in the area. Units from the Chula Vista and San Diego fire departments and two firefighting helicopters joined to battle the flames. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver apparently lost control of his SUV and crash landed on the roof of a University City home early Tuesday morning.The crash happened at around 1:15 a.m. in the 3000 block of Pennant Way, according to San Diego police.Bill Crane told ABC 10News that after he heard a loud crash, he came out of his home and saw the male driver in his yard and the Jeep Cherokee Laredo on top of his next-door neighbor’s house."I was asleep at the time and I heard this crash, and I came out and I looked around and saw a guy kind of wandering near behind me, by what's left of the tree, and he was just kind of stumbling and I couldn't figure out what the hell that was. Because you usually don't think of a car being on someone's roof. So, when I finally figured that out, I went in to get my phone, and came back out and called 911, and he was gone,” Crane said.Crane called 911 to report the crash, and he then called the woman who lives in the house. However, Crane said the woman initially didn’t believe her.Crane added, "I called her twice and she said, 'What, a car on my roof? I'm not going out there, I can't believe that.’ It is pretty unbelievable.”ABC 10News learned the woman was asleep at the time and never heard the crash. She believes the SUV was coming down Pennant Way, somehow veered on a resident’s front lawn and launched onto her garage.A towing service used a crane to remove the Jeep from the roof of the home’s garage.There is no word on how much damage the home sustained, but inspectors said the house was structurally sound despite the wreck.No one was hurt in the crash.As of late Tuesday morning, police have not tracked down the SUV's driver. 1692
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 4.7 earthquake struck the Central California city of Gonzales Monday.The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake at 11:31 a.m., 22 kilometers northeast of the city in Monterey County.The quake was 6.2 km deep. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Bankers Hill woman may be forced to tear down part of her historic home to make way for a city park with an AIDS memorial.Otherwise, she faces thousands of dollars in daily fines from the city. Jennifer Hasso has owned the 1924 Tudor-style home since 1998. She says she's invested millions to restore it to its glory. The city even designated it as historic. The house sits at the end of 2nd Avenue in Bankers Hill. Right behind it, a nearly one-acre site on Olive Street the city is eyeing for a community park with an AIDS memorial. The park would also include fitness and seating areas, walkways and an overlook deck. County property maps show the city owns the land immediately north of Hasso's home, which has no setback from its property line. In fact, Hasso's bay window and chimney extend over that property line, and her entire backyard extend is across that line. 904
