At 8 years old, the cat ended up at the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, or BARCS, and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, which stopped her from being adoptable.Laura Cassiday with Chesapeake Cats and Dogs rescued her and got her thyroid under control, but she found multiple mammary masses during her spay, and things took another downward turn. But Walnut is a fighter and a survivor. She recently underwent a bilateral mastectomy to remove the cancer from her body and prevent it from spreading. She’s not out of the woods yet, and her cancer could always come back, which is why she’s looking for someone who understands what she’s been through."She takes an inexpensive (about a month) pill twice a day to keep her thyroid in check. She’ll eat it right out of her food, no issues! She is an affectionate lap cat and would love nothing more than cuddling the day away with you ... to go through so much and then receive a cancer diagnosis on top of it all would be devastating to almost anyone," Cassiday said. "Walnut has taken it in stride, appreciating every day and living her life to the fullest."Walnut is located in Baltimore and her adoption fee is waived to a fellow cancer survivor."She thinks it would be great to have a partner in life who understands her, so they can cheer each other on ... she’s already unstoppable — imagine how the two of you would be together!" Cassiday added.Cassiday said Walnut would be best as the only animal in her forever home and would do OK with older kids. To learn more about adopting Walnut, 1558

in an attempt to chase down a car that rear-ended him.Olufemi S. Olomola, 38, was charged with two counts of abduction, reckless driving and felony hit and run for the Monday night incident.John Murray and Tameka Swann said Olomola picked them up from their home just before 8 p.m. Monday for a night out on the town. But, shortly after pulling away, they said someone rear-ended their Uber on Chamberlayne Avenue.“Our Uber attempted to pull over so that they exchange information, but the car didn’t stop behind us. They went around us and sped off and that’s when our Uber sped off behind him,” Swann said.Murray began to stream their trip on Facebook Live from the backseat. The driver pulled onto West Broad Street and raced through several red lights, according to the video. The couple said an SUV then crashed into the side of their car at West Broad Street and Arthur Ashe Boulevard. The video showed the driver continuing to speed away, narrowly missing a bicyclist.“At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the 2800 block of West Broad Street for the report of a hit and run. Officers arrived and spoke to the driver who reported that while transporting passengers, his vehicle was struck by another car and that car left the scene,” a police spokesperson said.“That was the scariest moment of my life,” Swann said. “I have never been that scared in my life. WOONSOCKET, R.I. – CVS Health announced Monday that it’s actively recruiting candidates to fill about 15,000 positions as we head into the fall and winter months. These new workers will help the company handle the expected increase in COVID-19 and flu cases, as well as the rollout of a potential coronavirus vaccine.CVS says more than 10,000 of the new roles are full- and part-time licensed pharmacy technicians at pharmacy locations and will be filled as soon as possible. Many of the positions are temporary with the possibility of becoming permanent. And in honor of Pharmacy Technician Day on Tuesday, CVS is advocating for an expanded scope of practice that would allow trained pharmacy technicians to administer COVID-19 vaccinations under the supervision of an immunization-certified pharmacist.CVS believes pharmacy technicians will play an integral role in safely and quickly distributing vaccines, extending the capacity of the health care workforce to address the pandemic.Along with helping with vaccinations, technicians help with COVID-19 testing, processing prescriptions, dispensing medications, providing information to customers and performing administrative tasks.“Additional team members typically are needed every flu season,” said Lisa Bisaccia, Chief Human Resources Officer, CVS Health. “However, we’re estimating a much greater need for trained pharmacy technicians this year given the continued presence of COVID-19 in our communities. These jobs offer a rewarding career opportunity, with flexible hours, advancement potential and a supportive environment while helping people on their path to better health.”For those seeking to stay home during the pandemic, CVS is also recruiting for several thousand work-from-home customer service representative positions across the country, including in Indianapolis, Kansas City, Knoxville, Mt. Prospect, Orlando, Pittsburgh and San Antonio. These jobs start at 30 hours per week and offer flexible schedules.Job seekers can go to cvs.jobs to apply. 2026
