CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A burglary victim is making a plea for the return of a priceless family heirloom after thieves forced open her front door and raided her Carlsbad home. Joanna Bradford returned home last Thursday and saw her front door open and damaged. "My heart started beating, immediately nervous and called police," said Bradford.Bradford eventually discovered a ransacked bathroom and bedroom. A new iPad and some jewelry had been stolen, including a gold-and-silver Omega watch belonging to her father, who passed away in 2013. He bought it in the 70s and wore it to work every day."I would put it on, look down, and see my dad. He was with me whenever I was wearing it," said Bradford.Bradford's Ring doorbell camera revealed clues about who made that watch vanish.Just before 10:30 a.m., a man wearing a blue shirt and sunglasses rings the doorbell with his knuckle. He then leaves and comes back with a backpack. That's when the motion-activated camera stops.In the next video, that man and another man are seen emerging from the home with backpacks, before getting into a vehicle, possibly a light-colored GMC Acadia SUV, and driving off. Another vehicle, possibly a light-colored Audi A2 Hatchback, leaves at the same time. "They knew what they were doing. (KGTV) — Lhooq Books is the kind of place where easy reads mix with just about everything else.Owner Sean Christopher has spent years building this collection and re-building the location."Basically replaced, repaired or deep cleaned absolutely every inch of the property," Christopher says.He spent thousands of dollars turning a run down shack into an overstuffed book store, coffee bar, and community library and arts hub. He rents the space and his home next door from the same property management company. But this fall, when he called to ask about his lease, he instead got a 60-day notice to vacate."It was complete and utter shock because there was not even a hint of anything wrong going on," Christopher said.He acknowledges the owner has the right to end the lease, but 60 days to move his home and his business is overwhelming. When he asked the owner for an extension, he got an even surprising response."The property manager rep said do not contact him again, if you do, we consider it harassment and we'll give you a 3-day notice. But it's not personal, it's just business," Christopher says.Christopher started a GoFundMe to help with legal fees and is asking his customers to contact the city for help. He's hopeful he can still write a happy ending to this chapter of his life."We're not being unreasonable," Christopher said. CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) - A border watch group says there are glaring holes along the border that can be plugged with the help of troops.The Department of Defense sent thousands of troops across the border to areas like the San Ysidro Port of Entry. “I don’t know all the intelligence, but it seems like (the troops) are all in the areas where the fence is pretty secure,” said Dan Russell with the Minutemen. The Minutemen is a citizen’s group dedicated to watching the border for illegal crossings. If they see any, they report them to border patrol. “Maybe they’re expecting thousands to show up in Tijuana or Tecate, but if they’re there in large numbers all they have to do is get on a bus, take the highway, drive an hour, and come over a wide open border,” Russell said.Russell says his group volunteers to watch the mile of the border just southwest of Campo. In that mile stretch, there are about five gaps along the border wall.“About every quarter mile, you’d want some eyes on the border,” he said. 1045
