(AP) — The Trump administration plans to lift endangered species protections for gray wolves across most of the nation by the end of the year. “We’re working hard to have this done by the end of the year and I’d say it’s very imminent,” Aurelia Skipwith, the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday.More than 6,000 wolves now roam portions of the western Great Lakes and northern Rocky Mountains. Today would be a normal drive to work for Amelia Caceres — except her house is surrounded by police tape. Adrian Perez helped her get out, both still in shock after hearing the brand new bridge outside their home collapsed."We were some of the first people on the front,” Caceres said. “And we saw the cars crushed underneath it was really horrifying, so it was really scary.”“My mind just does not captivate that that happened,” Perez said.Caceres and Perez saw the scene unfold, in disbelief. “It’s kind of like surreal,” Perez said. “Like it was a movie. There was a woman — I guess that she was trapped in the car like under the car .. she was crying hysterically. It was just really strange.”What made it even more strange for these two is that they had just watched the bridge go up days before.“It was just up. It was done,” Caceras said. “And it seemed almost like it was amazing that they had done it so quickly.”The bridge was designed to provide a safe way for students at Florida International University, like Perez, to cross a busy highway."I was really excited about this bridge because I was like finally I won’t have to go through the death trap that is eighth street crossing," Perez said. "Now, that’s kind of ironic."Carlos Devarona lives less than a mile away, and travels the street every day.“You have a blind faith in construction,” Devarona said. “You never think something like this is going to happen.”Watching the scene left him with even more questions, specifically why officials chose to perform a stress test in the moments before the collapse. “Not above live traffic  — you don’t do that,” Devarona said. “It just should never happen.”As investigators work to answer the many questions surrounding the collapse, Perez and Caceras, like so many others, wait for answers.“I’m sure that they did what was needed to get done,” Perez said. “I don’t think anyone would do something like this purposefully. They've been ignored for decades, but now, drive-in movie theaters are making a huge comeback. It's the only place where large crowds of people can see a movie together, and still maintain a social distance.Usually on vacant lots or in rural areas, the drive-in was hugely popular. Until it wasn't. Fancy theaters took over and many of those sites became a piece of history, the empty lots they sat on often doubling as a swap meet.“It’s been one of the most interesting stories of the pandemic, in terms of the movie business, is that drive-ins, which have been mostly ignored since the 70s and 80s, have become the focal point for theatrical movie going and for people who want to get out of the house and go to the movies, because those are the spaces that are open and I think it will have an impact going forward,” said Ross Melnick, professor of film and media studies at the University of California Santa Barbara.Melnick is also the man behind the website Cinema Treasures. The site provides research on more than 50,000 theaters around the world. “It features memories, comments, data, photographs; it’s a globally crowd-sourced information database in which people can talk about when they worked at theaters, the information they have on them. as well as remembering their history and contemporary function,” he explained.Now, it's a social site. People keeping in touch, remembering their favorite theaters, and their favorite memories. “When you’re home, you’re thinking about what you’re missing, what you used to do--used to go to the restaurant, coffee shop and one of the things they used to do is go to the movies,” Melnick said.The Memphis-based Malco Theatres has been a family business since 1915. There are 36 locations and one drive-in, which recently reopened. Malco called it a "socially distant cinematic success."“It’s selling out. It’s like the glory days,” said David Tashie, president of Malco Theatres. “Cars are piling in. Malco Theatres have been through a lot through the decades, having to adapt to every technological evolution. “We were the first to integrate theatres,” said Tashie. “We’ve survived Spanish flu, wars.”And now, they've survived a pandemic. “There’s a lot of history here we’re trying to protect and we’re on it, and Hollywood needs to keep delivering movies and we’ll have great places to show them,” he said.The Summer Drive-in is not alone. Melnick says there's been pop-up drive-ins all over the country and world. Some are so full they're turning people away. It's the one place where people can be together, even if they're not. "The longevity of the kind of business it creates a stake in the community there’s this continuum you have this place that and multiple generations have grown up in the area,” Melnick said. “The summer drive-in is this consistent location for rites of passage- childhood, teenage hood or parenthood. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested in Mexico Thursday after authorities found six different suitcases and bags containing human remains in Tijuana, according to ABC 10News partner Televisa. Early Thursday morning, legs were discovered in a suitcase in front of the Tijuana Cultural Center. Around the same time, another suitcase with body parts was found in front of a pharmacy. A head was later found in a different location in Tijuana, Televisa reports. RELATED: Tijuana ranked most dangerous city in the worldA man identified only as Jonathan “N” was detained in downtown Tijuana. He was carrying another suitcase with human remains. According to Televisa, more than 113 homicides have been reported in the last three weeks. So far this year, more than 1822 murders have taken place in Tijuana alone. 824
