DENVER – In a matter of days, Christopher Watts went from pleading in an interview with Scripps station KMGH for his wife and kids to come home, to wearing an orange jumpsuit and becoming one of Colorado's most notorious accused killers.Police arrested Watts late on the night of?Aug. 15 for allegedly killing his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, and young daughters Celeste and Bella.Watts faces three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree murder – victim under 12 in a position of trust, one count of first-degree unlawful termination of a pregnancy, and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body, according to Colorado court records and documents.This isn't a story about why he did it; it is a story about a decision that could cost him his life.Five of the aforementioned counts make him eligible for the death penalty. Many Coloradans and people from around the world are already calling for Watts' execution and have even created a private Facebook group dedicated the topic.Ultimately, the decision on whether to seek the death penalty against Watts lies solely on the shoulders of one person: Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke.Rourke has 63 days to make the decision after Watts' arraignment, a hearing that has not yet even been scheduled. "I felt the death penalty is not justice. It's vengeance and vengeance doesn't belong in our courts."Becker's time on a death penalty jury came to an abrupt and emotional end after the judge let the defense present evidence sympathetic to the defendant. Evidence Becker believes should have come to light long before he was asked to potentially put a man to death. Evidence so strong, the prosecution ended up taking the death penalty off the table."It became very apparent to me that we are asking people to come to this conclusion and not providing them all of the information. We're hiding facts and we're hiding the information and asking them to do that," said Becker.He also brings up another perspective: what about the heavy burden that kind of decision leaves on jurors?"Is it fair? Jared Polis and his partner have both tested positive for COVID-19, the governor’s office said Saturday evening.Polis, who went into quarantine on Wednesday after saying he was exposed to someone who tested positive for the coronavirus, said in a statement he and partner, First Gentleman Marlon Reis, were asymptomatic and “feeling well.”“Marlon and I are feeling well so far, and are in good spirits. No person or family is immune to this virus. I urge every Coloradan to practice caution, limit public interactions, wear a mask in public, stay six feet from others, and wash your hands regularly,” Polis said in a statement.The governor’s office said he would be “closely monitored” and would continue to work remotely.The governor signed four executive orders relating to the virus earlier in the day. "So it's a little scary," she adds, seeing the rows of empty shelves at the store on West Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa.The sign on the store announces that there are just 11 days until the store is closed for good. Rubiani registered with Babies R Us for her first daughter, but now, expecting a second child soon, she doesn't yet know where she'll turn."I was going to do Babies R Us but then they close," Rubiani said. "Now I have to go all the way to Brandon to go to Buy Buy Baby which is a completely different store."Buy Buy Baby, which is owned by Bed Bath & Beyond, has four stores in Central Florida, but only one in the Tampa Bay Area, in Brandon.Rubiani and other new and expecting moms say the impact will go well beyond baby gift registries.Some believe online shopping, like Amazon.com, won't be a suitable replacement for filling daily needs.And they add that stores like Walmart and Target don't currently have the wide selection Babies R Us has."It's not always easier because you don't know what you're going to get until you get it," says Rubiani."What if it's messed up and you have to send it back, and what if you need it right away?" 1751

DETROIT — Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan was packed with people for Michelle Obama’s book tour Tuesday night.Although, before she hit the big stage, the former first lady made a visit to the famous Motown Museum, where a group of college students were surprised when she walked through the door.The group of teenagers, ages 18 and younger, all attend Wayne State University. They were at a forum to discuss various topics such as education, culture issues, goals and overcoming obstacles.The event moderator was actor, comedian and Detroit-native Keegan-Michael Key. Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson on Sunday conceded the Florida Senate race to Republican Gov. Rick Scott, ending his re-election bid after the completion of a statewide recount.Scott announced the concession in a statement, saying, "I just spoke with Senator Bill Nelson, who graciously conceded, and I thanked him for his years of public service."Nelson will make a statement at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, his campaign announced.The concession brings to conclusion a key Senate race that continued to be fought well after Election Day.The Senate race -- along with the governor's and state's race for agriculture commissioner -- went to a machine recount a week ago, but the recount did not do nearly enough for Nelson and further formalized Scott's more than 12,000-vote lead. The contest still fell within the .25% standard for a manual recount of overvotes and undervotes, however.Nelson conceded after the noon deadline for the manual recount, when all of Florida's 67 counties were required to submit their final vote totals to the secretary of state, meaning every vote deemed admissible by county canvassing boards and the courts had been officially counted.The results of the recount showed Scott with a vote lead of 10,033 over incumbent Nelson. Before the completion of the manual recount, Scott had a lead of 12,603 votes.Nelson's concession comes a day after Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum ended his campaign for governor by acknowledging that Republican Ron DeSantis had defeated him. The concession was a blow to Nelson, given the two top Democrats had figuratively stood together in calling for every legal vote cast in Florida to be counted.
