TORONTO, Canada, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao visited an aircraft manufacturing facility on Saturday morning, in a gesture to show that China attaches importance to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Canada.Bombardier, a Canada-based global manufacturer of planes and trains, has cooperation projects with China in the areas of civil aviation and rail transportation.It has been working with the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) of China to jointly develop and manufacture the innovative C series of airplanes.Hu toured the factory to have a close look at the components of the Q400 aircraft, which was partly manufactured in Shenyang. BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Urban fixed assets investment in China for the first five months rose 25.9 percent year on year to 6.74 trillion yuan (986.76 billion U.S. dollars), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced Friday.The growth rate was 0.2 percentage points down from that for the first four months, according to figures released by the NBS.In the first five months, central government project investment was 540 billion yuan, up 14.1 percent year on year; investment by local governments soared 27 percent to 6.2 trillion yuan.Investment in railways construction and transportation climbed 20.4 percent to 161.1 billion yuan during the same period.The government is reportedly planning to spend 700 billion yuan on high-speed railway construction this year.Total investment in the primary sector (including farming, fishing and forestry) expanded 16.1 percent from a year earlier.The industrial sector saw investment up 22.4 percent and investment in the tertiary sector, which covers commerce, finance and services, was up 28.8 percent.Property market investment grew 38.2 percent to 1.39 trillion yuan in the first five months, 2 percentage points higher than the figure for the first four months, according to NBS data.

XINING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A senior anti-corruption official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Monday urged strict supervision and inspection of relief and reconstruction work in Zhouqu County, which was devastated by a massive mudslide on Aug. 8.A supervision and inspection system must be established to ensure thorough implementation of the central authorities' instructions on disaster relief and reconstruction, said He Yong, deputy secretary of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.He made the remarks at a conference on supervision and inspection of relief funds and supplies.He instructed intensified supervision and inspection of medical, mud-clearing, infrastructure rebuilding, resident relocation and epidemic prevention operations.He also ordered stepped-up supervision of the use of disaster relief funds, supplies and donations, and asked local officials to make public how they were utilizing the funds in a timely manner.He said the principle of openness and transparency must be applied throughout the period of disaster relief work and reconstruction, and vowed to punish any misuse of relief funds and supplies.The mudslide has killed 1,254 while 490 people remain missing as of Monday.

BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Growth of China's foreign exchange reserves are slowing as the total reached 2.4543 trillion U.S. dollars by the end of June, up 15.1 percent year on year, the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, announced on Sunday.Statistics from the central bank show China's foreign exchange reserves increased by 7.2 billion U.S. dollars in the second quarter, a drastic decrease compared to the last quarter in 2009, when reserves grew by 126.5 billion U.S. dollars.Reserves in the first quarter increased by 47.9 billion U.S. dollars.The PBOC also said the declining euro was the major reason behind the slowing growth in foreign exchange reserves.The exchange rate between the euro and U.S. dollar had fallen by nearly 20 percent between the end of 2009 and May this year, according to the PBOC.China's basket of foreign exchange reserves include the U.S. dollar, euro, Japanese yen and others.On a monthly basis, reserves increased by 43.4 billion U.S. dollars in April followed by a reduction of 51 billion U.S. dollars in May, while June saw reserves increase by 14.8 billion U.S. dollars.China's gold reserves stood at 33.89 million ounces at the end of June, according to PBOC figures.
