San Ysidro, CA (KGTV)- The border wait times to cross into the United States are significantly shorter Tuesday.According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection App, the wait times at the border in San Ysidro averaged around an hour depending on the time of day.In the last few days, border crossers reported waiting up to ten hours to cross into the U.S."A lot of people going to the border five, six hours before their work entry, it's been crazy," said Jose Montanez.Montanez is a married father of two. He lives in Tijuana, but crosses to work as a manager at a taco factory. He said the lines this weekend were especially bad, even in the pedestrian lanes."Four hours, five hours waiting in line, standing in line, you get tired," said Montanez.Last Friday, CBP began "adjusting operations" to focus on essential travel. The goal is to slow the spread of COVID-19.A spokesman with CBP sent 10News a statement, that reads in part:"According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a recent survey of more than 100,000 travelers on the southwest border found that the vast majority of cross-border travel by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents is for purposes that are not deemed essential. (CNS) -- A brush fire that may have been sparked by illegal fireworks on Sunday afternoon has scorched about 1,200 acres near the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Santa Clarita and is about 30% contained Monday morning, authorities said.About 400 firefighters and three helicopters remained on duty overnight working to put out flames and clear lines of vegetation to contain them, Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Sky Cornell said.As of 9 a.m., the fire was listed at 1,300 acres and 30% containment. No injuries were reported and no homes were damaged, authorities said, but an assessment released after daybreak indicated that nearly 4,800 structures were threatened.At one point on Sunday, flames threatened nine homes in rural Agua Dulce Canyon which were ordered evacuated, and 200-250 people were advised to prepare to leave their homes if conditions worsened, according to county Fire Chief Deputy David Richardson.Evacuees were told to take small animals and report to the Victory Outreach parking lot at 37419 25th Street East in Palmdale but to stay in their cars due to COVID-19.The fast-moving Soledad Fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, pushed by winds of 20-30 mph, Richardson said.The flames skirted the 14 Freeway, burning near Soledad Canyon and Agua Dulce Canyon Roads and jumped over the freeway in a couple of places only to have those spots put out quickly by firefighters, he said.Initially, the northbound 14 was closed at Agua Dulce Canyon and southbound lanes were shut down at Soledad Canyon, the California Highway Patrol reported. (KGTV) - At least one person is dead after a collision with a tree off a South Bay freeway split their vehicle in two overnight.The crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday on the southbound Interstate 805 connector to State Route 905 in San Ysidro, according to California Highway Patrol.Officers said the driver, who has yet to be identified, was traveling southbound on I-805 when he hit a tree. The collision split the vehicle in two and sending half of the vehicle into the westbound lanes of I-905.CHP officers said a portion of the vehicle also caught fire.The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to officers. (KGTV) — Cal State San Marcos police are warning students and community members after a stranger was caught touching himself in front of two women.The incident occurred Monday at about 5 p.m. at the campus' Mangrum Track and Field facility, the college said. Two females who weren't students arrived to work out and saw a man near the pedestrian entrance water fountain. As the two women were walking on the track, the man reportedly made a comment to them and that's when they noticed he was committing the lewd act.The women immediately reported the incident to campus police. The man was last seen riding his bicycle up the pedestrian ramp and then west on Craven Road toward parking lot XYZ.The man is described as in his mid-30s, about 5' 8" tall. with a bald or shaven head and thin build. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, tan work boots, a yellow reflective vest, and a black jacket.Anyone with information is asked to call university police at 760-750-4567.Anyone on campus who believes they have witnessed a crime is urged to call 911.
