Gavin Newsom announced Friday that the city of San Diego is one of four cities in the state that will receive 0,000 in state funding to support residents affected by power shutoffs due to the threat of wildfires.While visiting Sonoma County emergency responders, local officials and residents affected by the Kincade Fire, Newsom announced the establishment of the Local Government Public Safety Power Shutoffs Resiliency Program, which will provide funding to local governments to maintain power service to high- risk areas affected by power shutoffs.San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose and Oakland will each receive 0,000 in state funding through the program and all 58 counties in the state will receive at least 0,000 each. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of carrying out a series of credit union heists in San Diego County, stealing more than ,000 over a three-month span, pleaded not guilty Friday to 10 felony counts, including robbery and attempted robbery.Karl Doron, 43, was arrested Tuesday after he entered the Navy Federal Credit Union, 6755 Mira Mesa Blvd., and allegedly demanded cash from the employees, according to FBI Special Agent Davene Butler.Police officers and FBI agents had been monitoring Doron based on information they had gathered in an investigation that began in late December, when the first robbery occurred, Butler said.Upon leaving the credit union, he was taken into custody without incident and found to be carrying a loaded handgun, the agent said.RELATED: FBI searching for 'Gloved Robber' in series of credit union heistsDeputy District Attorney Andy Aguilar said Doron, whose alleged spree started three days after Christmas, used gloves, glasses, coats and other clothing to mask his identity. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspect was behind bars Wednesday in connection with a mugging that left a 73-year-old disabled woman gravely injured last week on a downtown roadside near Cortez Hill.Stanley Harris Hinton, 31, was arrested Monday on suspicion of carrying out the robbery and assault in the Core-Columbia district of San Diego, according to police.The 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound suspect allegedly attacked Nannette Altevers, who uses a walker, near the corner of B Street and Fourth Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. Friday.Patrol officers responding to a 911 call about the assault found the assailant gone and Altevers suffering from extensive upper body trauma, Lt. Matt Dobbs said. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.Due to the severity of the victim's injuries, homicide detectives have taken charge of the case, the lieutenant said.Hinton was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault, robbery and elder abuse. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who was sentenced to nearly a decade in state prison for crashing a pickup truck over the side of a transition ramp to the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, killing four people and injuring several others when it landed in Chicano Park below, was released from state prison Friday.Richard Anthony Sepolio, 28, was released Friday morning after serving two years and 10 months of his nine-year, eight-month sentence, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office confirmed.Sepolio was convicted by a jury last year of four counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of DUI causing injury. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Julian man was behind bars Tuesday on suspicion of fleeing after the car he was driving struck and fatally injured a bicyclist on a rural road east of El Cajon.Craig Wendell Nelson, 56, was heading east on Dehesa Road near Singing Hills Golf Course when his 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage veered into a bike lane east of Willow Glen Drive and hit Kevin Wilson of La Mesa from behind about 10:45 a.m. Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.Medics took Wilson, also 56, to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where was pronounced dead.Following the crash, Nelson allegedly kept driving to the east and south before pulling over on Sloane Canyon Road and fleeing on foot, CHP public- affairs Officer Travis Garrow said.Officers eventually found the abandoned vehicle, and a helicopter search crew spotted Nelson in a nearby brushy area.
