South Korea said Saturday that North Korea has accepted its proposal to hold high-level inter-Korean talks next week.In a statement, South Korea's Unification Ministry said the talks are planned for Thursday.The talks were first proposed by South Korea to be held in the Panmunjom truce village in the Korean Demilitarized Zone.North Korea said it will be represented by a three-member delegation led by Ri Son Kwon, chairman of the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland Committee.South Korea stated earlier that its three-member delegation will be led by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon.The announcement came a day after South Korean President Moon Jae-in teased the possibility of another meeting, this one among the United States, North Korea and South Korea.Moon said negotiations are continuing ahead of the "historic talks" planned for next month with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. He's expected to meet with Kim in April, the first time the North Korean leader has publicly met with a foreign head of state."Through these talks and future talks, we must end the nuclear and peace issue on the Korean Peninsula. It is necessary to make it possible for the two Koreas to live together peacefully without interfering with each other or damaging each other," Moon said this week.The meeting between Moon and Kim is just a warm-up for the main event, however, with US President Donald Trump accepting an invitation to meet with the North Korean leader sometime before the end of May.It will be the first time a sitting US president has met with a member of North Korea's ruling Kim family.  1618

Someone out there is sitting on a lottery ticket worth more than .5 billion, but has not stepped forward to claim the prize, according to ABC News. On Oct. 23, a single winning ticket was purchased in South Carolina for the largest Mega Millions jackpot in history. The ticket is also the single most valuable lottery ticket in US history. "We have not heard that the winner in South Carolina has come forward," Mega Millions administrator Seth Elkin told ABC News. The winner has 180 days to claim the prize. That means the winning ticket does not have to be claimed until April. If no winner comes forward, each participating state in the Mega Millions game will get back all the money that state contributed to the unclaimed jackpot, the lottery says on its website. The amount of money that goes unclaimed in state lottery programs is quite staggering. Some first responders worry if current COVID-19 hospitalization numbers do not start falling, the general population looking for care might get turned away.Bed space in intensive care units is not available in several major metropolitan areas around the country, as more COVID-19 patients come in.Last week, 224 ICU beds in the Albuquerque, New Mexico were reported as occupied despite the availability of only 192 within hospitals that reported data to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.According to data from HHS, 1 in 3 Americans is living in an area where hospitals have less than 15 percent of available intensive care beds, and 1 in 10 Americans are in an area with less than 5 percent capacity.“It’s scary,” said Maria Pais, an RN Supervisor at University of New Mexico Health. “We’re scared.”Since March, Pais has been helping the hospital convert areas into ICU chambers so it can handle the influx of patients.“Social distance so we can get through this and so we can have the beds we need in this hospital to care for you and your family,” she said.“It takes a toll on everybody, because daily, as we come into work, we never know what we’re going to be doing,” added Patrick Baker, director of the hospital’s Rapid Response Team.“I don’t envy the providers who have to sit there and make the plans for if and when we have to determine who gets care and who doesn’t,” he said.Baker says surgery units have been converted into ICUs as UNMH has reached a point where emergency rooms are now seeing effects as well.“It’s not just affecting COVID patients,” said Baker. “COVID patients coming in is a big deal, but how would you feel if you had to go to the emergency room because you got in a car accident and you weren’t able to be seen?”And the issue is not just affecting people coming into these hospitals but the men and women tasked with keeping them running.“Staff to take care of the patients in the beds is more likely the limiting resource that we have,” said Barclay Berdan, CEO of Texas Health Resources, which oversees the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
