It is acknowledged that relations between the two countries are of critical importance to the Asia-Pacific region and, I might say, the entire world," he said.He urged both countries to proceed calmly with current issues, including the recent maritime collisions in the East China Sea that sparked a diplomatic spat, saying that cooperation was indispensable."In terms of the relationship between Japan and China as a whole, it is essential we work together to deepen our mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests from a broad perspective, including peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and increasing cooperation in the economic field," Kan said.Seperately, Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara said Friday Japan was open to discussions with China in order to prevent further maritime incidents as strained bilateral ties between Japan and China were "not productive.""It is necessary that Japan and China reach an accord on how to avert an incident," Maehara said at a meeting hosted by Kyodo News."We are required to strategically establish a win-win relationship between the two countries, considering that tensions and confrontations are disadvantageous for both," he said.

PARIS, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's coming visit to France will help the two countries consolidate consensus on bilateral ties and major international issues, Chinese Ambassador to France Kong Quan said Monday.Kong made the remarks during a joint interview by Chinese media. MANILA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government will provide the Chinese government a copy of the final report on the Aug. 23 hostage-taking incident before it divulges the findings to the public, the presidential palace said on Friday night.Secretary Ricky Carandang of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office made the statement after President Aquino met with the Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) led by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, following the submission of the final report on the incident that killed eight Hong Kong nationals."We have to communicate this to Beijing first before we make it public," Carandang said, adding that the presidential palace only "wants to be careful" in handling the sensitive matter.He said that the high-level Philippine delegation will still go to Beijing and Hong Kong to formally present the report to their leaders but this will have to be done after the President's working visit to the United States.The President and his delegation to the United States will depart on Monday night and will return on Sept. 28.

TAIYUAN, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- China will flex its muscles to boost the low-carbon economy and green industry, in a bid to help upgrade the development mode of exports, said a senior government official Thursday.Gao Hucheng, Vice Minister of Commerce, said at an energy forum in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province, that China has risen to become one of the world's largest exporters, though it is not a strong exporter yet, remaining at the low end of the global value chain.China's exports leaped in recent decades, mainly dependent upon low labor costs and sales of energy and resources.Further, China needs to put more efforts into producing high-end products and improving their quality through low-carbon and green technologies to expand the share of green products in exports, he said.The global financial crisis hurt the world economy and promoted nations to look to green industry for new growth, he said, and adding strategic new industries could be "a new growth point" for China's foreign trade.China would encourage major products, technologies and services in new energy and energy-saving sectors to tap the global market and support enterprises to invest abroad, Gao said, without giving details.Further, he said there was "no land boundary" in terms of low-carbon and green technology and expected international cooperation in this field.China was opposed to protectionist measures in any form, he added.
